JUNE 2022

EPR in bloom

June is the month when nature blossoms. Flowers are in full bloom and bees – by the way, happy belated Bee Day to these crucial pollinators! – are working hard to keep our planet going. Romance is in the air and chemistry between various elements of our ecosystem is clearly visible.

Chemistry is not always beneficial to the planet, though. In this month’s COMPASS, we have an update on the Restrictions Roadmap – an important step towards phasing out the most harmful chemicals.

Watching nature thrive makes us even more determined to reduce the impact of waste on the world around us.

In Brussels, discussions continue apace on new legislation for batteries and packaging. Countries like Austria, Germany, and the UK are developing new ways to enhance their EPR systems. And Panama is all set to introduce EPR for the very first time.

Waste also gives us the opportunity to drive forward the circular economy in a creative and inspiring way! Plastic recycling in Europe is thriving and, over in Spain, our colleagues have come up with one of the 100 best ideas of the year!

So, get inspired! Take a break, hopefully outside, enjoy nature and immerse yourself in June’s COMPASS.
