Letter from the President

Dear Members:

The summer is in full swing and we are gearing up for some exciting events in July and August.  First up is our Dress for Success drive at the Thursday, July 10, 2014 networking breakfast, followed by our Capital Program Management presentation on Tuesday, July 15, 2014. 

We will close out the summer with another wine tasting social and IFMA Foundation fundraiser on Thursday, August 14, 2014.  We are planning a full line-up of events and programs for the fall so be on the lookout for information in upcoming Chapter announcements. 

The 2014-2015 IFMA Executive Board has been selected and are listed below.  We are excited to welcome the new officers and delighted to have those who are returning. I would like to thank Frank Lazzaro for his hard work and all the time he dedicated as treasurer - we look forward to having him continue to be involved as a member at large. In addition, the Chapter is currently accepting nominations for the 2014 Awards dinner next January.  Please click here to make your nominations.

I would like to express my gratitude for your continued membership and support of this organization.  Without it, IFMA New York City would not be able to provide networking and educational opportunities for its participants.  I am looking forward to another year as your chapter President and I am immensely grateful for your support.

Networking and IFMA Cares
The July networking breakfast will be held at a new location this month - the Global Industries Showroom. We will also be hosting a drive to benefit Dress for Success, a nonprofit that promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Just bring your ready-to-wear and gently used women’s professional clothing/accessories to the event for collection. Monetary donations also welcomed! Click here for more information on Dress for Success.

Emerging Leaders/Young Professional
FM Dock, a grassroots organization that aims to foster the education of Facility Management and Real Estate students by connecting practitioners and students, is proud to announce the success of the first annual FM Dock Conference. FM Dock worked in collaboration with Pratt Institute’s Department of Facility Management to produce the International Facilities Management/Real Estate Life Cycle Planning Workshop and Conference. The conference was held on June 7-12, 2014 and the selected case study topic was Cultural Arts Institutions.

Students in attendance were from Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Korea, as well as New York City. Guest lecturers from a wide variety cultural arts institutions discussed facility management, strategic planning, and end-user needs. The students were provided the opportunity to tour Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), four facilities at Lincoln Center, and the Mark Morris Dance Company while receiving informative answers from various industry specialists, which will help these students improve their case studies.

Sponsors included ABM, IFMA NYC, Macro Consultants, ROI Consulting, and various small donors. Without their support, the conference and workshop would not have been successful.

Join IFMA New York City for a presentation focused on new ways of looking at Facility Capital Program Management on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
How you ever struggled with balancing how to utilize data from a Facility Condition Assessment process with forecasting and developing your long-term capital plans? The purpose of this workshop is to give you better ways to forecast how to fund and implement capital projects that will promote optimal facility performance. You will learn new and different assessment methodologies and building cost modeling strategies. You will also be presented with case studies for implementing alternative approaches.

Save the date for the 2014 IFMA NYC Wine Tasting Social and Foundation Fundraiser. We will be raising money for the IFMA Foundation, an organization that works for the public good in support of Facility Management higher education, students studying Facility Management and related fields, research critical to the profession, and increasing awareness of facility management and making FM a career of choice.

There will be a wine tasting, offered by Allora Vineyards of Napa Valley, as well as a raffle, door prizes, and a silent auction, including items such as a private flight tour of the Hudson River and New York Harbor, Dinner at New York’s finest restaurants, and of course wine.
