BEERY NEWS
Flashback Festival Helps SNAP

We're pleased to announce that visitors to our 10th anniversary  celebrations, the Flashback Beer Festival, have donated just over £50 to Warley-based children's charity SNAP (Special Needs and Parents).  As pledged, Brentwood Brewery has donated an additional £100 to SNAP based on sales from Flashback Fest.

Head Brewer Ethan Kannor visited SNAP HQ to tour the charity's facilities with founder and manager Hilary Needham MBE and to present a cheque from the brewery totalling £200.  It also included a donation from the brewery, based on sales from Shenfield Christmas Fayre, of £50.

"Thank you so much to all of the wonderful staff and customers at Brentwood Brewing Company for supporting us through festivals, community events and a regular collection. All the money raised will help us continue to be there for local
families with children and young people who have any special need or disability and we couldn't do this without the support of the community," said SNAP's Hilary Needham MBE

Receiving the cheque on behalf of SNAP were Rob Dennis and Jos Hollington, the charity's super-busy fundraising team.  They are challenged with the task of helping to raise the half a million pounds it takes each year to keep the centre and all the charity's work going.

SNAP helps families with children and young people with special needs and disabilities and is currently helping 1900 families.  Projections estimate that 500 new families will seek help from the charity this year.  As well as running a programme of supported activities for children and young people at the SNAP Centre in Pastoral Way, Warley, the charity also offers parents advice, training and support.  For more details or to find out about their programme of fundraising events like SNAP Charity Golf Day on 14th October, visit www.snapcharity.org.

Bloom Winners 2016:  The Essex Arms

Skip finds, re-used and up-cycled into planters and flowers grown from seeds collected last year, combined with creative flair and attentive nurturing make The Essex Arms’ pub garden a lush, colourful courtyard oasis, and the winner of this year’s Brentwood Pubs in Bloom competition.

“We’re elated to have won. We’re passionate about our local community and want to get involved in things going on in it. Winning this competition puts The Essex Arms at the heart of the community and we’re delighted,” said Essex Arms manager Mike Shewbrook.  This year's display was planned and grown from seed by Assistant Manager Ben Easen.

“The Essex Arms’ stunning garden fuses urban chic with natural beauty to great effect. The team has been so inventive with the theme of re-use and recycle, creating a wonderful garden in a relatively small courtyard space,” said competition organiser and judge, Jaye Eaton of the brewery’s sales and events team.

The theme for this year’s competition, organised and sponsored by the brewery, was Reduce, Re-use and Recycle. Nineteen pubs entered with judging taking place a little earlier than usual, in June.

An awards ceremony was held at the brewery in July where the 2016 Brentwood Pubs in Bloom winner was announced. All participating pubs got the opportunity to socialise over a glass of Brentwood beer and each received a certificate.

MD Roland Kannor said: “Brentwood Brewery is keen to promote this community-spirited competition which enhances the local environment and champions the importance of the traditional pub garden - a place in which to relax, smell the roses and enjoy a drink with friends.”

Congratulations go to all the pubs that took part in the competition, which is aimed at making the borough and surrounding area an attractive environment and building strong community relationships. They are:

The Rising Sun, The Swan, The Hutton Junction, The Viper, The Willow, The Olde Dog Inn, The Alma Arms, The White Horse, The White Hart Inn, Margaretting Tye, The Star, The Bricklayers Arms, The Forresters Arms, The Cock Tavern, The Eagle, The Rose, The Spread Eagle, The Robin, The Thatchers and The Essex Arms.

The brewery would like to thank Brentwood horticulturalist and gardening guru Keith Petty for his continued support of this competition by volunteering his time, expertise and invaluable help with judging.

Stop Press:  The date has changed for the brewery's Elephant Invasion Beer Festival.  It will now be taking place on  Saturday 8th October  10.30am - 5.30pm.  The range of Elephant School Brewing beers currently available will be there.

Coals to Newcastle?  Beer to Germany?

The brewery team is currently conducting research into which beer characteristics and flavours appeal to the German palate, with a view to making an English beer to suit their tastes.

Market research involves the brewery team tasting at least a dozen German beers, sourced from the most popular micro breweries out there.

"It's a tough job being a brewer sometimes, but it has its rewards.

"Volunteers for this particular project have not been difficult to find," said brewery MD Roland Kannor.
