Fragile Xmas Ale
Little Oakley Kannor, has been helping his Mum Holly and Dad, Head Brewer, Ethan to brew a special beer with The Fragile X Society.

Fragile Xmas Ale  4.3% ABV will be available from 10th December at our Christmas Beer Festival.  It has been brewed to raise awareness of Fragile X Syndrome, a genetic condition which is the most common inherited cause of learning disability.  A donation of 10p for every bottle and pint sold will go to the national charity, based in Essex, which supports children and families with Fragile X Syndrome.

Holly said: "Last December our world was turned upside down when our son, Oakley, was diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome.

"Prior to Oakley’s diagnosis, Fragile X Syndrome was a condition that we had never heard of and believe, to this day, would still know nothing about.

"We would love to create awareness, and at the same time, raise as much money as possible for the Fragile X Society, so that they can continue to provide much needed information and support to families like us."

Roland said:  "Please drink generously.  This is a cause close to our family's hearts."
Pep Up Xmas Sprouts

Just in case you didn't already know this, the best beer match for your Christmas Brussels Sprouts is our Lumberjack 5.2% ABV  - it's official.  Just ask There’s A Beer for That (

"Counter the brilliant Brussels bitterness with sweetness of Brentwood Brewing Company’s Lumberjack, a beautiful bitter.

"Lumberjack’s full body can cope with the strong flavour of the sprout, while the beer’s sweetness will contrast and balance the bitterness from the vegetable,” says Laurence Creamer of There’s A Beer for That which is backed by Britain’s Beer Alliance.

A match made in heaven.  Please remember to eat sprouts responsibly.

Roland and the brewery team would like to wish all our loyal Beery News readers and Brentwood Beer fans a very Merry Christmas and a Happy 2017.

Pub of the Month
           The F0lly Bistro              East Hanningfield

For a leisurely, relaxed dining experience The Folly Bistro offers a wide ranging menu using good, locally sourced produce to create popular dishes with a difference.     Not that the dishes are over the top according to Head chef James Penn.  He describes them as 'honest'.  James takes pride in pouring 'love and precision' into all of his creations.  Each one presented artistically for maximum wow factor.

"They're not just average meals.  They've got twists and quirks.

"We like to do things with a difference.  With the specials we have the option to go a little bit different again.  They're there to be fun, just a little more off the page and to tempt people to try something new," said James.

Chef's specials are changed regularly to take account of seasonal produce.

Everything on the menu is made on the premises including breads and desserts like chef's special chocolate fondant honeycomb icecream or dark chocolate and mint mousse with brandysnap and thyme crumble.  Also their popular baked Alaska, not as you might remember it but with The Folly's creative twist.

The Folly also welcomes anyone who simply wants to pop in for a drink.  On the bar you will always find one of the draught beers is brewed by us in Brentwood.  Supporting local businesses, they also serve a range of Hayman's Gin, distilled in Essex in nearby Witham.

Equally, anyone wanting a lighter meal is catered for too.  Although, even the Folly's triple decker club sandwich of BLT, chicken and egg is served with fries (all for £7.50), making it a heartier 'light' lunch than you might imagine.

"We make everything here.  We haven't got a big team or a big kitchen.  We probably push ourselves that little bit further than we need to but for us, it's just what we do," added James.
