Hello 2016
Happy New Year!  We hope you had a good Christmas too.  This year is going to be a special one for us as it will be our tenth anniversary on July 4th.  Celebration plans are afoot.  Although we cannot say what they are at the moment, rest assured they will involve something fun and Brentwood Beer.

Our first Open Day of 2016 will be on Saturday 6th February from 10.30am.  It would be wonderful if you would pop along and support it as we’re expecting a special visitor.  We’re not entirely sure if it’s supposed to be kept secret, so keep this under your hat … we’re expecting a visit from the Brown Tourist Sign people to check us out as a tourism venue.

We’re also looking ahead to some sunshine and all the spring and summer beer festivals.  Highlights of the year will of course again include Shenfield Strawberry Fair, this year’s Brentwood Festival as well as Brentwood in Bloom.

If this year is anything like the last, it’s going to be a fun 2016 at the brewery.  Almost certainly it will involve dressing up.  We have a giant squirrel, blonde wigs and knight’s outfits to beat this year.  The gauntlet has been very much thrown down on this and the team is getting increasingly competitive.

The brewery has also seen lots of visitors enjoying brewery tours and experience days.  Other more unusual visitors have included cowboys and cowgirls from Shenfield Operatic Society helping promote Ale-Klahoma! beer and Oklahoma! their show.  How will we top that this year?

As for The Earl of Brentwood he’s already looking forward to the St George’s Ale Trail in the town and any other opportunities to escape from the brewery.  We do our best to keep him in but sometimes …

At Brentwood Brewery 2016 looks set to be a really good year.  Hope yours is a good one too.

Pub of the Month
The Eagle, Kelvedon Hatch

A visit to The Eagle at Kelvedon Hatch could be just the thing to lift your spirits in the gloomy January weather.  You can enjoy a hearty, home—cooked, warming meal and a good pint of beer.

The extensive menu includes most pub favourites like scampi and chips or chicken curry for £9.45 each as well as fresh fish and their popular homemade pies like steak and ale which is sometimes made with Brentwood Best.   Beef and Guinness pudding costs £10.45.  Seasonal specials, like chicken casserole and dumplings £10.45, can be found on the chalkboard but if you fancy a sandwich, a burger or even breakfast, The Eagle offers those too.

Read the full review on the Brewery Blog.

Beer and food match suggestion:  Try Winter Warmer 4.7% ABV with chicken casserole with dumplings

Tasting notes:  A well-balanced, amber-coloured Winter ale with spicy notes creating a full-flavoured beer to enjoy on cold winter days.

And finally ... January Beers of the Month

Anyone tempted to go almost Dry-January may be interested to try our award-winning, January Beer of the Month, BBC2.  It has all the flavour but is only 2.5% ABV.

For Star Wars fans we have Elephant School Light SaBeer  4.4% ABV.    May the fours be with you.  Think about it…
