UN SG report on MDGs and Post 2015 Framework

CIDSE contribution to UN SG report.

As the UN prepares to publish a report on the advances in reaching the Millennium Development Goals, work on a UN “Special Event” to lay down the framework for global development post-2015 is also underway. CIDSE has reacted through a letter to Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

Whose Alliance? The role of the G8 in African Agriculture

CIDSE launched our G8 publication at a debate in Brussels co-organised with Misereor and europAfrica.

The panel gave the much-needed perspective of African farmers and civil society organisations on the G8 New  Alliance, a project aiming to open up African agriculture for direct foreign investment.

 CIDSE #Week4Hope Event: Sustainability Wanted!

10th anniversary of Ecclesia in Europa.

CIDSE participated in this COMECE initiative by arranging a lunch debate with interventions by Sister Philippa Rath OSB and MEP Peter Liese. CIDSE also screened an out-take of our film Private Wealth, Public Poverty on mining in South America.

  • The Private Sector Group is preparing a briefing on Human Rights Due Diligence (September).
  • CIDSE is planning a side event around the UN General Assembly Special Event on the Millennium Development Goals (New York, 25/09/2013).     
  • A CIDSE delegation will take part in the 40th Session of the Committee for World Food Security/FAO (Rome, 7-11/10/2013).
  • A CIDSE delegation will attend the UN Climate Change Summit (COP19) in Warsaw (11-22/11/2013).

  • Bishops Ludwig Schwarz/Austria and Gabriel Mbilingi/Africa issued an open letter calling for corporate transparency supported by CIDSE, ahead of the EU tax Summit (22/05/2013). CIDSE also joined civil society lobby efforts on tax automatic information exchange in a joint letter sent to G8 leaders (14/06/2013).
  • CIDSE attended the UNFCCC negotiations on climate change in Bonn (03-11/06/2013) and supported a letter to the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk by a group of bishops calling on him to lead towards ambitious climate policies both domestically and in the EU.
  • CIDSE has been selected to join the EC Platfom for Tax Good Governance. Center of Concern is representing CIDSE in the UNCTAD WG on Sovereign Debt Workout Mechanisms.
  • CIDSE co-signed an advert in the European Parliament Magazine and an open letter to EU decision makers on biofuels ahead of important votes in the European Parliament (10/06/2013).
  • Stefan Reinhold, Programme and Advocacy Assistant left the Secretariat on 14 June for new challenges.
  • CIDSE Directors met in Ireland for their Mid-Year Meeting as part of Trócaire’s 40th anniversary activities (Dublin, 23-25/06/2013). They said goodbye to René Grotenhuis and Justin Kilcullen, respectively Directors of Cordaid and Trócaire, who will cease their functions later this year. CIDSE welcomes Simone Filippini who will succeed to René Grotenhuis as Cordaid Managing Director.
  • CIDSE Advocacy Assistant, Kate Durbin will go on maternity leave from the end of August to May 2014. During this time she will be replaced by Giulia Bondi.
