Climate change wins, poorest bite Doha's dust
The poorest bite Doha's dust, as governments keep the negotiations on track towards a global deal by 2015, but do little more to avoid catastrophic climate change.
In Doha, developed countries made no new cuts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, urgently needed to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. Even though some European countries announced new climate funds in Doha, this is insufficient to meet existing and future needs of the most vulnerable communities in developing countries.

Human rights 'due diligence' report presented at the UN
A new report outlining existing instruments and available options for States to meet their duty to ensure corporations are not contributing to human rights violations was presented on Monday 3 December at the United Nations in Geneva.
The report is a result of the “Human Rights Due Diligence Project", which CIDSE supported by organising the Latin America regional consultation in Peru last October.

FTT on its way, but where will the money go?
The European Commission has given 11 EU member states the green light to implement a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT), showing that the EU has no intention to be hostage of the financial sector’s vested interests.
However, now that the tax is finally on its way, the question is whether it will benefit those it was originally meant for, the poorest, or whether it will end up plugging leaky national budgets or filling a bailout fund for banks and financial institutions.

Ahead of the Climate change summit in Doha, CIDSE travelled to Warsaw for a European NGO strategy meeting and discussions with representatives from the Environment Ministry and Polish civil society (13/11/2012). Two briefings were also released: one on climate finance and the other on climate and agriculture.

CIDSE, its members Misereor and CCFD-Terre Solidaire, and several Southern partners attended the Doha talks. CIDSE co-organised a side-event on climate and agriculture and met, among others, French Minister Canfin, European Commissioner Hedegaard and Scottish Minister Weelhouse. In a series of short video interviews, CIDSE members and partners explain why we must keep faith in the international climate talks to achieve climate justice.
