From the President...Why are we closing our stores (and our new hours)...

Thanks to all those who have wished us well, and we totally accept the comments from those who have been a little less encouraging :-)

Although a little personal, we owe our great customers an explanation for our closing, and here it is...

It has been our passion and pleasure to bring great-tasting gourmet soda to Western Washington for these past 5 years or so. We have thousands of loyal fans whom we have gotten to love, and who have supported this cause. Thank you so much. We are so sorry for the abrupt decision. Please know it has saddened no one more than me as the owner and founder of the Root Beer Stores.

Our family moved to Sandpoint Idaho 6 months ago, and had put GREAT management in place to continue running the stores. We have also worked endlessly to get pizza and ice cream into our Puyallup store. We were so close.

In the end, the decision was a financial one. Some unforeseen events put us into a situation where we faced looming debt, and because we have always run our business debt-free, we were not willing to take the sad as that is. We have been operating another business out of our Redmond Store ( that has been supporting our Root Beer concept all along. However, the costs of obtaining root beers from around the country, along with the exorbitant costs of taxes, wages, rent etc. is something few realize unless they have opened a small business.

Therefore we had two choices. (1) Continue as normal and potentially lose everything, or (2) Make immediate, hard business decisions, simplify, reduce costs, get out of our expensive leases, and continue running 1 company store in Idaho, and continue our very popular and growing online operation.

So thats it. Thats the story. If you have loved our concept, we could use your support with our two remaining stores (Redmond and Lynnwood) until the end of December. A plea would be to please go easy on our staff as this decision was unexpected for them as well, and with them losing their jobs its hard enough, but for them to be questioned hourly has been challenging these past few days. Hopefully this post will help clarify things, and if you are ever in beautiful Sandpoint (half hour north of Silverwood Theme Park) stop by. We hope to be up and running by the summer.

Yours in Root Beer
