2 cups Root Beer

For the Ice Cream Jell-o

Instructions
For the Root Beer Layer
Sprinkle the 2 packets of gelatin over the cold water and let it sit until it's absorbed and softened. Pour boiling water over it and stir until dissolved. Add in sugar and root beer and combine. When the sugar is completely dissolved, pour into a 9x13 baking dish and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Cut into cubes and transfer to an 8 x 8 baking dish. Store in the fridge while making the ice cream layer.
For the Ice Cream Layer
Sprinkle 3 packets of gelatin over cold water and let it sit until it's absorbed and softened. Pour boiling water over and stir until dissolved. Add in sugar and stir then set aside.
Place the 2 cups of ice cream in a small pot. Melt it over medium heat on the stove, or in the microwave, until it's liquid. Stir the melted ice cream into the gelatin mixture then let it sit to come to room temperature.
Pour the ice cream over the root beer cubes and refrigerated overnight. Cut into cubes and serve them up for a no-melt treat!

May Root Beer of the Month
Flashback Root Beer

The Flashback Malt Shoppe is owned and operated by Robert and Boni Crook in beautiful Seaside Oregon. While on vacation in 2008 the couple found the malt shop business for sale, and fell in love with the store and the city.

In the spring of 2010 they decided to further develop their concept, and branded their own root beer and 3 other flavors.  “Our idea was to create a root beer that would compliment our ice cream floats,” says Robert—who sells not only malts, but other nostolgic sodas, puzzles, shirts, games, and a vast array of nastolgic hollywood-themed merchandise.
Betty Boop, Star Trek, Elvis, and Marilyn Monroe are just a few of the themed characters and hollywood celebreties they promote in the store, and they devote days of the week to making the memories fun. Wednesdays are Wonder Woman Wednesdays, for example.
Since develpoing their bottled sodas, the success has enabled them to launch an entirely separate company entity that is dedicated just to the bottled beverages.

The store is open 363 days a year, and is a focal point in the beautiful coastal tourist-town which is the “end of the trail” for the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

And the answer is...
In our last newsletter we asked our great customers if anyone knew what kind of truck this was. Here were some responses...
"Looks like an early 50s International to me." -- M. Huffman
"I'm about 97% sure it's a 1954 International 4x4." -- J. Hyde
"You're hinding the grill, but (our) guess is a 49 or 50 Chevy or GMC." -- Charles and Gina
"Looks like a 1947 or 48 International" -- K. Bean
Thanks to all those who chimed in!!!

Homer Maple Syrup Root Beer History
Homer Soda Company began in a Historic Main Street building in Homer Illinois about 10 years ago by Ray and Christine Cunningham.  Homer is home to about 1,000 people and is the quintessential farm town.
Since that time Ray has gone on to become the Mayor for the Village of Homer and has sold the company to Kate Boyer. Kate, who also speaks German, attended Parkland College and worked for Toshware, Inc. before purchasing the company.
Kate and Rob Boyer currently operate the wholesale and distribution portion of the company, and love to have their family get involved. They have 5 children who love to help, along with Kate’s parents who also are a great support in the business.

Root Beer Enthusiasts from GERMANY

We loved seeing some customers from Germany who were visiting friends in the USA and who were trying their first taste of Root Beer. It was no surprise that they weren't too sure about it..as they said it had a "medicine taste." This is a common response by international visitors.
