Inaugural Event - Viva La Comida! - Draws Thousands to Jackson Heights & Elmhurst

Judging by the crowds and the reviews, the 82nd Street Partnership's inaugural Viva La Comida! festival, held on Friday September 21st at Dunningham Triangle, was a big success.

Thanks to amazing support from local residents and food lovers from across the city, 82nd Street buzzed like never before, with dance performances, flower arrangements, embroidery, singing, cooking and eating all happily taking place in and around the plaza. Outside the Jackson Heights Cinema, a pop-up crafts market organized by Design for You added flair, with vendors selling custom artwork, jewelry, and apparel to festival-goers. Louie Soljovic, owner of nearby Louie's Pizza, told the Queens Courier after the event, "We always have a pretty decent Friday, but with Viva La Comida it was tremendous."

The 82nd Street Partnership wishes to acknowledge the community of food bloggers and writers who did a great job spreading the word about the event. We also want to thank Jeffrey Orlick, our event marketing and food consultant, and Celeste Balducci, our entertainment producer, for curating a fantastic lineup of vendors and performers.

We look forward to working with the community to make Viva La Comida! an annual tradition, and we welcome input on how we can make it even better next year. Please email us your ideas!  To read more about the event, click here, and to check out more photos, click here.
