November - Don't fall behind on ReKon news

November Reflections

It might be hard to tell it is November in Los Angeles with the warm weather and sunny skies, but according to the calendar the year is almost at a close.  As 2013 ends, we gratefully wrap up several projects and excitedly get ready for new productions ushering in 2014.  Read on for updates on past projects (Dating in LA and Other Urban Myths, Pretty Dead) and the official announcement of the feature 7 on 10.

As the holiday holiday season approaches and with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I would like to extend my thanks.  Thank you to all the friends, fans, and followers of ReKon, for staying up to date with us via emails, twitter, or Facebook.  It is a pleasure to be part of this community and to receive feedback in emails, retweets, and Facebook comments.  Thank you to everyone who also has worked with ReKon this year hiring us to help produce projects, rent gear, or in some way facilitate a production.  Lastly, thanks to the truly awesome people who work here and have worked for ReKon.  The cast and crews we have worked with this year have been phenomenal.  And our producers are amazing and I'm happy to have them a part of the company.
7 on 10 - IndieGoGo
We have officially launched our campaign for the feature film ReKon is developing with Kristina Kondrath producing - 7 on 10!  It's a film that addresses the topics of addiction, the war on drugs, basketball, and prison.  We mentioned the feature in last month's newsletter and its involvement with The Women for Sobriety Center.

Our campaign - www.support7on10film.com - will introduce you to the film, the issues surrounding it, and some of the most extraordinary women you could hope to meet.  The film and campaign are affiliated with two incredible charities, Women for Soberity Center and A New Way of Life Re-entry project, each working with formerly incarerated women in recovery.  Over 30 days we will present videos of formerly incarcerated women and hear their stories.  There will be more ways to get involved in both the feature film and the charity work.  This is more than making a movie, it is building an active community of which we are excited to be a part.

Eat&Run

Amongst the ghoulish decorations and pumpkin spice lattes of Studio City in October, principle photography wrapped on ReKon’s latest joint project, the short film Eat & Run.  Eat & Run is a thriller that puts a twist on the perceptions of villain and victim as it focuses on a young woman’s search for companionship and her dangerously obsessed admirer.

The short explores the gray areas of horror.  Story creator and star, Corrin Evans “wanted to tell this story in a way that would show human relationship and the every day battle each person faces with the demons in their heart.”  After a successful kickstarter campaign, the creative and producing team joined with ReKon producer Lesley Lopez to bring this unique story to life.

For more information and up-to-date news follow Eat & Run on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/EatandRunthemovie).

Pretty Dead at Comikaze

The zombies of Pretty Dead invaded the LA Convention Center during Comikaze to promote the film.  In August, we announced that Pretty Dead was available to stream or download on VOD services such as Amazon and Hulu, and it is now also available on iTunes.  Photos from the convention can be seen on the film's Facebook page.

In a few months the film will also be available on DVD.  The DVD release will be announced in a future newsletter.

Photoshoot for inconnu Magazine with Grace Helbig

We had the pleasure of doing a photoshoot for inconnu with the charming and funny Grace Helbig, one of the queens of the internet.  The Future Issue, the third volume of the magazine, is available digitally or in print and features a couple of our shots in the article about DailyGrace written by Taylor Brogan.  You can see more of the photos on our photo site.

The issue also has a great article about the writer/director/creator of Squaresville, Matt Enlow.

ReKap - Dating in LA Reel & Equipment

Dating In LA & Other Urban Myths (updated in our August newsletter) has released a sizzle reel showcasing scenes from the pilot and future episodes.  This short piece will be used to pitch the show to investors and networks in order to create the first full season of the show.  The reel was directed by Danielle Turchiano and produced by Danielle, Jon Michael Kondrath, and Patricia Steffy.

Last month, we shared our recent acquisition of the Arri M18 HMI light.  We've also picked up a couple other small pieces of gear to add to our collection including the Zoom H6 audio recorder, an Edelkrone slider (a super compact, lightweight slider), and a couple Canon Speedlite 600 flashes.  We'll be updating our blog with our gear under the Equipment category.

ReKon Blog

One of the features on the ReKon website is our blog.  The blog provides the most up-to-date news and information about ReKon as it happens.  Posts announce upcoming projects, provide information about projects in development, share stories from the production experience, and give updates on completed projects.  In addition, links to much of our work in motion and still photography are posted regularly on the blog.  Occasionally, our producers post their thoughts on the filmmaking process and the industry as a whole.

As a continuing effort to provide information on all ReKon has to offer, we added a new category to our blog - Equipment.  This section will detail some of the equipment which we own and use for our productions and have available to rent.
