Los Cuadros Church and pre-K - 11th grade School

"See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a new way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
Isaiah 43:19

In our June Newsletter we shared about our desperate financial situation and made a plea for your help. Your faithful monthly giving is what makes it possible for us to stay in the battle. We know that God has brought us to the poor and distressed neighborhood of Los Cuadros to partner with this church and school, helping them take their place in the community and make a difference in the lives of families.

GOD HAS BEEN PREPARING US for this "new thing" for a couple of years already. It wasn't completely clear what God was up to but we felt something big was coming. Big indeed, so much bigger than us, that's for sure! God spoke to us that we were to do the work of Nehemiah and help restore the walls of Los Cuadros, a town known as the Cancer of Costa Rica. After three months of teaching a Christian Education class to middle and high school kids at the Los Cuadros LACC school (Latin Amercian Childcare), we were asked to become the interim pastors of the church which is part of the school. By doing so we would take the lead in helping move this church/school forward (structurally, administratively and definitely spiritually). The school includes daycare through 11th grade, and represents approximately 300 families from the community.

This is definitely beyond our experience or abilities, but God was very clear that this new work was not to be done on our own. God so clearly spoke to us that LIKE NEHEMIAH we are to assess the work and rally the people. The people of the church are very encouraged and already asking where they can help. They believe this is God because God had already been stirring their hearts to rebuild these walls! We could find ourselves feeling intimidated by the challenge, but He has made it so C L E A R that this is His direction for us (that's another awesome story for another time!).

Right now we are in the process of gathering our troops to help rebuild these fallen walls of the church, school and community. The structures of the church and school are large and can be used in greater ways to meet the needs of this hurting community. However, they are in much need of repair and renovation. This is a BIG task, people, but God is in it! We are believing He will bring about those who would partner with us in rebuilding these walls so that together we can see God turn Los Cuadros into that STREAM in the wasteland!

John, Dina & Family

Our first four Engage Costa Rica college students have arrived. Benjamin, Alex, Hannah and Sydney arrived on September 4th. We are excited and the timing is right. Students will "engage" in the work to be done here at the church and the school in Los Cuadros. Soon they will be traveling throughout the country to assist in construction and evangelism. We know they are excited to be used by God in so many different ways, and we look forward to seeing God at work in their lives and the lives of whom they will impact for eternity! Please keep them each in your prayers!

~ For a "VAN" - This has become critically important to transport our Engage/National students to ministry sites around the city and country.
~ For God's protection/covering/ over us and our team as we enter the enemy's territory. There is undoubtedly a palpable demonic oppression over the area!
~ For supernatural favor with those whom we will be working with and ministering to in Los Cuadros.
~ Wisdom in decision making and spiritual strength.
~Our Missionary Associates, Mike and Polly Brown, as they are itinerating to raise their funds to come work with our Engage Students. We need them here!

Thank you, to all who are partnering with us. Your giving IS making a difference in the lives of Costa Rican's whom we are ministering to! LIKE EDGAR CHAVEZ, who attends our church in Los Cuadros and graduated from this LACC school. In July, his 21 year old brother was shot and killed in the neighborhood. Recently, Edgar handed John his application for bible school. He feels the Lord wants to use him to make a difference in his community. This harvest is plentiful and the workers are few. Yet the Lord is raising up workers right here in Los Cuadros!
