Dream Kitchen Grand Opening Was a Blast

Over 200 community members joined us for the Grand Opening of our very own Tender Loving Care Kitchen on October 23rd! It truly was an evening of celebration where attendees were served some of the finest appetizers and delicacies made by our very own dream kitchen team - the same team who makes almost 300 meals a day for our Meals on Wheels clients. Their hard work truly made the night special!
The official ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 5pm and we were honoured to have Mae Hicks cut the ribbon. Mae retired last year as the longest serving Meals on Wheels volunteer in Waterloo Region at the age of 92 having delivered meals for 39 years. Thanks Mae!

We couldn't have come this far without an incredible amount of support from our generous donors and supporters. We would especially like to thank Westmount Signs for donating our Recognition Kitchen Donor Wall allowing us to showcase significant contributors like Strassburger Windows and Doors and Grand River Contracting. Thank you to everyone who has helped make a 30 year dream a reality. Your support means so much to us.

You could be part of the team! The Dream Kitchen is always looking volunteers to be part of the very special team who prepare nutritious and delicious meals for our clients each day of the week. If you have a passion for food and helping others, please call 519-772-8787 and ask for Jennifer or email jenniferb@cscmow.org.

If you are interested in making a contribution to the kitchen, please call Ros at 519-772-8787 or email rosalindh@cscmow.org to discuss donation options.

Record Numbers at the 5th Annual Mayor's Souper Sampler

Over 500 people came out to the 5th Annual Souper Sampler on October 25th setting a record for the most attendees the event has ever seen! Because of your generous support you helped us raise over $3,500, enough to subsidize 921 hot and nutritious meals for low income seniors and adults with disabilities in Cambridge. Thank you so much for your support!

CSC would like to congratulate the big winners of the day. Beertown and The Easy Pour Wine Bar tied for third place, Kiwi Cambridge came in second place, and the winner of the Souper Sampler Trophy was The Bruce Restaurant and Lounge. Congratulations as well to The Easy Pour Wine Bar for winning The People's Choice Award.

This event would not have been possible without the incredible support of our vendors who not only donated their time but also their delicious soups. Thank you Black Badger, Devlin's Country Bistro & CateringBeertownJack's Iron Griddle Cafe, ChartwellOntario Christian Gleaners, Kiwi Cambridge, Zoup Cambridge,The Easy Pour Wine Bar, The Bruce Restaurant and Lounge, and our very own Meals on Wheels team. We would also like to thank Silver Bowl Sponsor Cambridge Centre Honda. Once again, thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a success!

Add a 2015 Leejay Levene Calendar to Your Shopping List

With the holiday season quickly approaching, gift ideas are probably swirling around your head. If you want to start crossing items off your list early, consider purchasing 2015 Leejay Levene Calendars for your friends and family. They would also make great corporate gifts for your local business!

Calendars are $10 each and feature Leejay's unique artwork as well as inspiring quotes from local supporters like Michelle Herrle from Herrle’s Country Farm Market, to public personalities including Rick Mercer, host of The Rick Mercer Report, and Jim Davis, creator of Garfield. All of the proceeds go towards the purchase of much needed kitchen equipment for CSC's Dream Kitchen.

The calendar project originally began in 2007 in memory of Leejay Julius Levene. Leejay was an aspiring architect who tragically died in July 2007 while undergoing routine wisdom teeth extraction in an oral surgeon's office in Waterloo, Ontario. His family shares his artwork with local charities each year to create a calendar that raises funds for much needed services in our community.

We have been honoured to work with the Levene family on the 2015 calendar project which will go a long way in helping us reach our $600,000 capital campaign goal. With the help of our donors and supporters we have raised $563,000 so far - that's just $37,000 away from the finish line! If you want to help us cross the finish line by purchasing a calendar or by ordering them in bulk, go to the Leejay page on CSC's website or call 519-772-8787 and ask for the Resource Development Team.
