Tacofest Raises Over $29,000 for Meals on Wheels

We are proud to announce that the third annual Waterloo Region Tacofest, presented by MTE, has raised over $29,000 for Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More. Last Friday July 3rd was full of amazing food, brews and happy Tacofesters, not to mention some very happy vendors who walked away with the big awards of the night! Congratulations Taco Farm, winner of The Golden Taco, Public Kitchen & Bar, winner of The People’s Taco, and Wildcraft, winner of The Vegetarian Victor.

And for the first time ever, our judges awarded Best Brew to Lake of Bays Brewing!

Our Presenting Sponsor MTE Consultants Inc. continues to be a huge supporter of Meals on Wheels through their event sponsorships and team meal deliveries to our clients. New this year was our Photobooth Sponsor eSentire, who brought us Flashpoint Photobooth allowing Tacofesters to take away snapshots of the night for memories all year long. Also new this year was our Green Sponsor The Boathouse, who provided the reusable glassware for beer sampling while our Entertainment Sponsor Your Neighbourhood Credit Union, brought us local group Safe As Houses.

We especially want to thank our 12 taco vendors and 12 craft beer vendors who donated all of their product to the event. Without our vendors, there would be no Tacofest. Why not consider showing your support by visiting a few of our vendors this summer! There were also so many other supporters that made Tacofest happen. Go to http://tacofest.ca/news/ to see them all and to read our thank you. And of course, thanks to everyone who came out in support of Meals on Wheels. We hope you'll be back for more good times, tacos and craft beer next year!

25 Years of Delivering

The team at Royal LePage Scharf Realty Ltd is CSC’s longest serving corporate volunteer. After helping the original KW Meals on Wheels find a new home, the group started delivering meals and is now celebrating 25 years of volunteering with what we know now as Community Support Connections – Meals on Wheels and More

“When people ask about the involvement of my company in Meal on Wheels I tell them it is the most fulfilling volunteering we do. To help someone maintain their freedom to live in their homes when they are in their later years, or for someone with health issues or disabilities is so rewarding.

Over the years I know that our clients have been able to extend their time in their own homes through our meals. I think every time we sing a happy birthday to a client it’s as if we have added another year in their own homes. We are proud to be a part of such a worthy organization.”

The picture above was taken five years ago at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner where Ted Scharf on the left, and his team member Jeff Holland on the right, received their 20 year awards from CSC's Volunteer Coordinator, Jennifer Ball.

Thank you to the entire team who have delivered 12,250 meals in their time with us!

CSC loves getting a helping hand!

We had three local groups come to volunteer at CSC last month which was awesome. Thanks to Northern Lights Kitchener-Waterloo who volunteered in our Meals on Wheels kitchen on June 4th and to The Immigration Partnership who came out for United Way Kitchener-Waterloo and Area's Day of Caring on June 5th. Both groups assisted with food preparation from peeling and cutting vegetables to individually wrapping desserts. And last but not least, thanks BMO for volunteering with us on June 10th and for helping with facilities-related activities like paper shredding, washing windows, and so much more. Thank you!

Are you interested in lending a helping hand? CSC is currently in need of volunteer Meals on Wheels Delivery Drivers in Cambridge and North Dumfries. Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver hot and frozen meals to clients’ homes on a route over the lunch hour, Monday to Friday. If you have 90 minutes in your day to give, please click here to apply or call 519-772-8787 and ask for a member of the Volunteer Team.

WIN A MOTORCYCLE!
The 2nd Annual Sports Bike & Car Show is raffling off a Yamaha R6 Sport Bike in support of our clients on August 9th!  The event takes place uptown Waterloo from 12pm-6pm and the winner will be announced at 4pm! A second bike is being raffled off in support of JDRF.  To get tickets, contact Rosalind at 519-772-8787 ext. 225 or email rosalindh@cscmow.org. Tickets are $10 each.

Best Golf Game in Town

Sure, you’ve been part of other golf tournaments before, but none like this. Golf Social is just seven weeks away on August 20th. Have you heard the news? Tacofest has signed on as the official Lunch Sponsor of Golf Social 2015! What a treat to have the Meals on Wheels kitchen, a first-time vendor at Tacofest, come out with their tasty creations for our golfers.

A big thank you to our supporting sponsors so far. Thanks to Platinum Sponsors Kevin Dineen at Sun Life Financial, Eyelight Marketing Services, The Watty Way, and Igloo Software; Gold Sponsor, Rebecca Zech at Investors Group; and Media Sponsors snapd Kitchener-Waterloo and 91.5 The Beat. There are still sponsorship opportunities available. Click here for more information, call 519-772-8787 and ask for Lauren Fargo or email laurenf@cscmow.org. To register as a single golfer or to register a foursome on snapd TIX, click here.
