Golf tournament against the grain? Get involved!

We are looking for community members and social media enthusiasts looking for a unique and fun way to give back by joining our Golf Social Committee!
Formerly known as “Twitterment”, the 5th Annual Golf Social is a non-traditional Golf Tournament that creates powerful conversations and lasting memories through social activities, challenges and the sharing of unique business and personal stories through social media.

Committee members assist with the planning and preparation of the event, including increasing our social media presence and soliciting sponsorship and golfers. The time commitment is generally 2 hours per month and meetings are flexible to accommodate everyone's needs. The tournament will take place on a date to be determined in August at the fabulous Rockway Golf Course. For more information, check out our ad with the Volunteer Action Centre here.

Last Chance

As we enter a new year with its meetings, appointments and hockey games, consider purchasing a 2015 Leejay Levene Calendar to keep your schedule organized!

This is your last chance to get this inspirational calendar that celebrates the life of Leejay Julius Levene who passed away during a routine dental procedure as a teen.  The calendar showcases Leejay's unique artwork alongside celebrity quotes. All proceeds from calendar sales will help us purchase much needed kitchen equipment for our Tender Loving Care Kitchen.

A limited number of copies are still available for $10 each. To get your copy click here or call 519-772-8787 and ask for the Resource Development Team or email Karlal@cscmow.org.

3 Ways to Beat the Winter Blues

Beat the winter blues with tips from CSC's very own kinesiologists!

1. Take a breather. Make some time for yourself. Spending just 15 minutes alone, without distractions, will help you refresh and re-energize. Find something that reduces stress by clearing your mind, slowing your breathing and restoring your inner calm. Examples might include listening to soothing music, watching your favourite television show, talking a hot bath, knitting, or reading a book.

2. Take time to exercise. Exercise will not only keep us physically fit, but it also has tremendous benefits in improving mental health. Exercise helps us stay focused, more energized, and improves our sleeping habits. When we exercise at a high enough intensity our bodies release hormones called endorphins. These endorphins trigger a positive feeling to the body, also known as a “runner’s high” which can be accompanied by a positive and energizing outlook on life. This feeling can also help us feel relieved of any stress, anxiety or depression associated with the gloomy winter months.

3. Take a Tech Time-out. Personal relationships and social connections can be nurtured with more one-on-one contact and less emailing, texting, and Facebooking. Commit to a time-out by turning off your phone. Social connections like these not only give us pleasure, they also influence our long-term health in ways every bit as powerful as adequate sleep, a good diet, and not smoking. Dozens of studies have shown that people who have satisfying relationships with family, friends, and their community are happier, have fewer health problems and live longer.

For more information on this topic or to talk to someone about CSC's exercise programs, call 519-772-8787 and ask for Kylie at ext. 222 or Jessica at ext. 257.
