This Edition:

Thank You Volunteers!

We held our annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, September 17th and it was a blast. This event is so special because it gives us an opportunity to bring everyone together to celebrate, recognize and appreciate the backbone of our organization - our volunteers. We cannot thank you enough for your dedication, compassion and care for our clients. With your help we enabled 6,494 local seniors and adults with disabilities live at home with independence and dignity. Thank you!

A special congratulations to Ted Scharf and Jeff Holland of Royal LePage Scharf Realty for receiving their awards for 25 years of service as part of the business's Adopt A Route team. We would also like to thank door prize donors Pizza Pizza, Victoria Street Market, DAVIDsTEA, Valet Car Wash, Floresta Flowers, as well as many staff members who contributed gifts. And a big thank you to Crestina Photography for the beautiful photos! Click here to view photos from the night.

6th Annual Mayor's Souper Sampler for Meals on Wheels

On Saturday, October 24th come out and enjoy some of the region's best broths at the 6th annual Mayor's Souper Sampler for Meals on Wheels. After your morning trip to the market, head over to Cambridge City Hall from 10am-2pm for soup sampling, coffee generously provided by Starbucks, and light refreshments. Tickets are $5 per person or $15 per family and will be available at the door. Admission includes two soup samples, with additional samples being available for purchase for $1 each. All proceeds go towards CSC's programs and services in Cambridge.

This event would not be made possible without the following vendors who donate all of their product in support of our clients. Thank you:  A big thanks to Green Sponsor Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada for their support. Be sure to visit the Souper Sampler Blog for more information on each of our vendors and sponsors leading up to the big event or visit CSC's Facebook Page.

Dream Kitchen: One Year Later

We still can't believe it's been a year since we opened the doors to our Meals on Wheels Kitchen! Our clients tell us the meals are amazing, thanks to the efforts of Chef Paula and her talented crew - full of fresh, local ingredients and prepared just minutes before they're delivered. Operating our own kitchen has enabled us to shorten our cancellation/addition window - meaning that our Meals on Wheels program is more flexible than ever. We are also better able to accommodate individual variations - including our eleven therapeutic menus and individual adaptations.

Click here to read a heartwarming story of a client who has experienced numerous health benefits from the program leading to an overall improved quality of life.

We could not have done it without the support of hundreds of donors, including the major capital campaign contributors listed below.

We are pleased to announce, The Leejay Levene Art Calendar raised over $16,000 alone and we thank all of the local businesses who sponsored and sold calendars in their stores. We especially want to thank Sobeys across the region for selling calendars on our behalf. Whether you made a donation, big or small, or volunteered your time to help make this dream come true, we thank you for your support.

If you are interested in making a financial contribution or fresh food donation, please call 519-772-8787 and ask for Rosalind at extension 225 or email rosalindh@cscmow.org.

Join Our Community Dining Team

We are currently seeking Volunteer Drivers and Program Assistants for our community dining programs. These programs offer the opportunity for seniors and adults with disabilities to get together to share hot nutritious, noon hour meals, participate in recreational or educational opportunities and expand their social networks.

Val (pictured above) has been a Volunteer Program Assistant at the Ayr community dining site for almost five years. “It's quite a social thing. People are happy with the meal, but  it's all about looking out for each other." Val loves that if someone isn't there one week, people care. One client even passes out cards to sign if someone is sick.
What Val likes most about volunteering is being in the company of our clients. "I enjoy it and look forward to it."

Volunteer Program Assistants help with set-up and clean-up, enjoy a free lunch and are encouraged to mingle with the group. They also assist Program Coordinators with the delivery of a recreational activity.

Volunteer Drivers provide our clients with transportation to the community dining site in their neighbourhood and are invited to grab a seat and stay for a free lunch. Afterwards the volunteer drives the client back home.

If you are interested in helping our clients feel connected to their community while being able to stay in their own home with independence and dignity, please call our office at 519-772-8787. In KW ask for Ann and in Cambridge ask for Michael. You may also choose to apply online here.
