This Edition:

Congratulations, Emilie

Though we are delighted for Emilie to be celebrating her more than 20 years with Community Support Connections - Meals on Wheels and More, she will be greatly missed when she retires at the end of September.

Starting as a volunteer, Emilie wore many hats over the years up to her recent position as Customer Service Scheduler. Our clients and volunteers love to talk to Emilie! She genuinely cares and is always willing to listen. Her commitment to the clients always comes first.

She takes the time to get to know people and determines quickly what the need is. She “works her magic” and does whatever she can to provide exceptional client care. Her work ethic, dependability, attention to detail, and wealth of knowledge will be greatly missed by her team. She never left an “I” not dotted or a “T” not crossed. Emilie’s strong, quiet personality has a calming influence to everyone around her.

Her passion for CSC also expanded to our fundraising efforts from family contributions including sharing their prized Kitchener Rangers tickets, to volunteering and/or attending everything from Gala to Souper Sampler and Tacofest.

Emilie, thank you for your dedication and commitment to this agency and to our clients and volunteers. We wish you the very best on your future adventures!

Driving our Clients: Meet CSC Driver Sandra

Sandra's mom helped her through some of the most difficult times of her life, and as a way of thanking her, Sandra looked forward to taking care of her as she aged. Sadly, her mom unexpectedly passed away at the age of 76. No longer having the opportunity to care for her in the way she had hoped, Sandra was inspired by her mother to give back to local seniors in need of a helping hand.

Sandra started volunteering with CSC in January and has driven more than 6,000 kilometers since joining the team! She always goes the extra mile helping clients into and out of the car, or staying with the client before they go into their appointment.

"It makes me feel good. I realize a lot of people have to give up their cars, either they can't drive or can't afford to drive, that's why this organization is so amazing."

CSC client, Patrick, is grateful he can get to his medical appointments without worry. "It's very convenient, very reliable," he said. Patrick's sister first heard about the program through an acquaintance at their retirement home and accompanies Patrick to his appointments.

"We've been very impressed by Sandra. She's been excellent. I've appreciated her very much."

CSC is recruiting drivers, our feature volunteer opportunity this month! Volunteer drivers pick up clients in their own vehicles and drive them to and from medical appointments, hospital visits, and day programs. We can schedule rides around your availability and mileage reimbursement is available. If you are interested in driving to help others, please call 519-772-8787 and ask for a member of the Volunteer Team or click here to apply online.

Thank You Shantz Family Farm!

On August 9, CSC received ten dozen corn on the cob generously donated by Shantz Family Farm for our Meals on Wheels and Community Dining programs. As you can see, our kitchen volunteers had a great time preparing the corn for our clients!

The Tender Loving Care Kitchen is able to accept fresh food donations allowing us to increase the amount of nutritious, local ingredients in our meals. This past spring we introduced Grow a Row encouraging local gardeners to plant an extra row of produce in their garden and donate it to the kitchen for our clients, and we are so excited to be planning for our kitchen garden, courtesy of 100 Women Who Care Waterloo Region, so next year we'll have even more fresh and very local content. If you or someone you know would like to contribute, please call 519-772-8787 and ask for a member of the Kitchen Team.
