Holiday Campaign Update

Thanks to our amazing supporters, you have already helped us raise more than $27,000 for our Annual Holiday Campaign! Together, you can help us reach our $32,000 goal so that we can continue to provide responsive, client-centred services enabling more than 7,000 clients to live at home with independence and dignity.

With your generosity, our neighbours in need will receive...
- hot, nutritious meals
- transportation to medical appointments
-
free gentle exercise classes and much, much more

Leading them to...
- greater strength and independence
- peace of mind with a safe and reliable ride
- a healthy and active lifestyle
As a donor you can help create...
- a welcoming environment for clients to access services
- a sense of belonging for our isolated neighbours
- a community where everyone feels at home - valued, connected and empowered

If you would like to make an online donation towards our goal, please click here or call our office at 519-772-8787. An and Dao: Brother and Sister Duo
Give Back

Five years ago An and his sister Dao, along with their mother, immigrated to Canada from Vietnam. The move gave An the opportunity to study modern medicine, a dream that grew after his father passed away when he was a young boy. In Vietnam, Dao earned a Master's degree in Biology but changed career paths when she came to Canada. She is now an Accounting student at Conestoga College while raising her two-year-old child.

Despite having busy schedules from morning to night, An and Dao are dedicated volunteers at Community Support Connections - Meals on Wheels and More (CSC). In his last year of university, An's academic counsellor suggested he try out CSC's Friendly Visiting program. He saw the challenges people face as they age, and learned the value of companionship through the program.

"The program is so good. I want to volunteer to build a stronger community. There are so many wonderful services, I want Vietnamese people to know about the organization," said An.

When his friendly visiting client moved away, An volunteered full time during the summer of 2015. From delivering meals and helping out in the kitchen, to his most recent position as office volunteer, he's become a familiar face at CSC. His positive experience led him to ask his sister to join the volunteer team in January 2016.

"I love volunteering. I want to contribute my skills," said Dao.

While An waits to hear back from his applications to medical school, he and his sister remain involved in the local Vietnamese community and want to inspire newcomers to Canada to get involved like they did by volunteering at CSC. Community Partners Celebrate the Giving Season

During the month of December, a number of community partners volunteered with CSC to celebrate the giving season. Thanks Magnet Forensics for preparing desserts and chopping peppers for our clients on December 19th, and D2L staff for packaging squares and delivering Meals on Wheels on December 22nd. D2L staff members told us they had personal connections with CSC - we heard of a great aunt who was able to stay at home longer with CSC's home help services, and a grandfather who delivered Meals on Wheels! Thanks as well to Farrow Group for joining us on December 14th. This group has committed to joining our kitchen team once a month!

Members of the Kiwanis Club of Kitchener-Waterloo helped deliver 77 meals on Christmas Day, which consisted of a traditional feast of turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, dressing and vegetables! We are so thankful to our many volunteer groups who not only give the gift of their time, but also help to spread the word about CSC's programs and services. Need a New Year's Resolution? Volunteer!

The above statistic warmed our hearts as we consider many of our own senior volunteers helping their senior neighbours thrive. CSC is always looking for caring people from all age groups who share our vision of a community where everyone feels at home - valued, connected and empowered. By offering more than 15 volunteer positions, we hope to tap into the varied skills, talents and passions that exist in our community.

For those looking to gain experience in the fitness sector, CSC offers free training for our WALC (Wellness Active Living Club) group exercise classes and Fab-Fit (Functional Ability, Functional Independence Training) one-on-one exercise programs. For individuals passionate about cooking and nutrition, our Meals on Wheels Kitchen offers the opportunity to work alongside our chef and staff who can help you reach your goals. Click here to learn more about our wide selection of volunteer opportunities or call 519-772-8787. Consider sharing your time and talents with us!

Stuff-A-Stocking a Success

CSC's Stuff-A-Stocking campaign was a huge success once again this year! Thanks to our partnership with Shoppers Drug Mart on Bridgeport and Weber, more than 300 of our most vulnerable clients were able to receive a present this past holiday season. Thank you Shoppers Drug Mart for making this possible, and to everyone who bought a gift for our clients! A special thank you to Descartes in Waterloo who helped us deliver some of the 45 gifts their staff contributed.

Thank You Meals on Wheels Depot Sponsors

As we enter a new year, we would like to express our thanks to our four Meals on Wheels depot sponsors:

Being able to offer Meals on Wheels depots makes meal pick up and delivery more convenient for our volunteers and reduces our volunteers' mileage. We would like to extend a special thank you to some of their staff who go the extra mile by helping organize the bags for pick-up. On behalf of the clients, volunteers, staff and board of CSC, we thank you for your support!
