e.motion21 Term 4 Newsletter

I can’t think of a better way to start term 4 by reflecting on the successes of recent months, and in particular on events that bring us together…

Thank you all for supporting a successful Motion Picture Awards. The dancers lit up the stage with their performances, bringing joy to audiences…the vibe was awesome!! Our MC and Ambassador, 00-21 Tim Campbell completed his mission with charm and style.

We were thrilled to open in October two new sites, in Highett and Rowville welcoming many new participants and their families and friends.

We launched our documentary Raising The Bar and
coffee table photobook Moving Bodies Moving Boundaries;
both have raised community expectations about what people with
Down syndrome can achieve if they are given the right
environment and opportunities.
As the year starts to draw to a close, I want to say thank you to our team of wonderful volunteers who support us in class at sites, in the office, on committees and on the Board. Everything you do is making a difference to our work and it is valued. Thank you also to our wonderful staff and contract teachers who always go above and beyond. We look forward to celebrating you all and what we have achieved at our volunteer party.

A special thank you to our Family and Friends Committee for their commitment and support.  As a result of the Committee’s work we have seen improved communications, processes and effective dissemination of information.

Best wishes to Fiona Hilson, Events and Volunteer Manager as she leaves her role with us, in order to dedicate more time to her family. Fiona has been a valued member of the team in various roles since our first concert at Xavier College in 2010! Though this is not goodbye, as we will continue to see Fiona at events and other functions.

We still have 6 packed weeks of fun left in the term with new dance experiences, performances such as Run Geelong, Knox Carols by Candlelight, International Day of People with a Disability and of course our fabulous end of year celebrations.  Look forward to seeing you there!!!

Warm regards,
Karina Posanzini | CEO

Dance Spectacular Review 2016!!

Thank you for all joining us on the red carpet to celebrate our 7th dance spectacular ‘Motion Picture Awards’!!!

Performers, you did us all proud and showed us the true meaning of what it means to be a star!

Families and friends thank you for being a part of this magic event and celebrating our performers achievements; the pride and self esteem gained by our participants could be evidenced in the height they had gained and smiles when walking off stage!!

A huge thank you to everyone that contributed to support this epic event, from sewing costumes, supporting backstage and front of house, videography, photography, lighting, sound, catering, raffles and much more. Your contribution highlighted what a powerful community we have supporting our young people with Down syndrome.

          Term 4 Objectives

Things might be starting to wind down for the year -  but the e.motion21 dance and fitness program is not!  We have a full program and exciting weeks ahead, with many community performances, dance workshops as well as end of year celebrations planned!
  • During Term 4 all classes will learn new choreography, to new music, some even trying new styles of dance such as Tap, Latin and Contemporary (please connect with your Teacher or Site Manager for more information specific to your class).
  • Each site has it’s own schedule of events and this information will be sent directly to you in the fortnightly e-blasts.  Towards the end of Term 4 families and friends will be invited to come along and watch class performances, either the dance/ fitness last class of term or within end of year celebrations.
We can’t wait to see you all at site to celebrate a wonderful year of dance, fitness and performance!!!

Welcome to Highett and Rowville!

Participant corner.....

Hi everybody, my name is Jonathan and I am 26 years old.

I started dancing with e.motion21 at the beginning of 2010 in Kew. I have been part of the Performance Group since 2011 and travelled to South Africa in 2012 for the WDSC. I have lots of fun and enjoy learning and developing my movement skills for powerful dancing.

I also volunteer in the e.motion21 office and my role is office administration. I have also helped with promoting e.motion21 in the community by sharing my story through words and dance at Volunteer Expos and business networking events.

This year I started paid part-time work at Melbourne Storm Rugby League club. I enjoy working for Melbourne Storm because I get to meet all the players and staff who are very friendly and easy to talk to.

1. Over 50% of our participants are adults

       2. We are looking to open more kinder and primary groups across all sites. If you know of anyone, get in touch!! Don't forget to ask about our free trial.

3. e.motion21 has 2,957 Facebook Likes and we would love your help to reach 3,000 by the end of this week!
