Spring + Cleaning = Ahhhh

Media library spring cleaning
Yep, it’s that time of year again when we start itching to do a little Spring cleaning. (And we better get a move on because we only have until June 20 before it’s sum-sum-summer time.)

One of the best places that could use a decluttering is your WordPress Media Library, which has a way of becoming a collection of unused files and images.

Cleaning up Media Library does two important things (among others):
  1. saves disk space on your hosting server
  2. reduces backup sizes
  3. makes it easier to find images when adding new pages and blog posts
Ready for a deep clean? Then check out these Media Library decluttering methods by WPBeginner, explained step by step.

Gutenberg, You've Come A Long Way, Baby.

WP Block TalkThe Geeks recently attended the all-day webinar WP Block Talk, and it was all we could talk about. (Heck, we’re still talking about it.)

Why were these talks so exciting? Because they were all about the Gutenberg WordPress editor, and it sure has come a looong way.

You may recall the nervous anticipation surrounding the launch of the new Gutenberg editor back in 2018. We even wrote a two-part blog series about it: WordPress Ch-Ch-Ch Changes! and Embracing the New WordPress Editor.

Turns out, time really does tell, and there are some pretty cool things you can do with this block editor, as evidenced by these geeky exclamations:
“The EditorsKit plugin is amazing!” - Katy
“The code for the shortcode transforms was really slick.” - Josh
“Just learned about Block Variations. Waaay cool.” - Tom

But you don’t have to take our words for it. The talks are now available on

Zero-days for Zoom
Update Zoom
There are two flaws (so-called zero-days) that are currently present in Zoom, and hackers are looking to exploit them.

If you’re a Zoom user, check to see if you're using the latest version. If not, click that “update” button.
COVID-19 phishing scams
Steer Clear of Phishing
Google saw more than 18 million phishing emails per day related to the COVID-19 pandemic during the week of April 5-12.

The usual safety tips apply:
  1. Make sure a URL is legit.
  2. Don’t click links in unexpected emails.
  3. Report phishing emails.

Project Highlight

WyoLotto Winners page - Cheyenne-based advertising and marketing  agency Warehouse Twenty One needed a way to automatically (vs. manually) publish winners of the Wyoming Lottery games, so they called on the Geeks.

This project was full of geeky fun for us because we got to build out custom functionality such as:
  • Total winnings in Wyoming
  • Winners carousel
  • Winners tile feed
  • Past winners table feed

Custom is our sweet spot. Head on over to our portfolio for more geeky fun!
