Start 2021 With (At Least) One Thumb Up
Since November, the Geeks have been thinking about the thumb a bit more than usual, and that’s due to a relatively recent update to Instagram.
The gist is that the social media platform forgot about the importance of the "thumb zone," and it provides a great reminder for us all: We've got to keep the human element in mind when designing a mobile experience. 👍
If your audience engages with your business via mobile, perhaps it’s time to revisit your website to make sure your visitors are having their best experience possible.
Fortunately, the Geeks can help you with this and start your web app’s New Year with two thumbs up. (Sorry, we just couldn’t resist.)

🎉 Snowman App Giveaway Winner 🎉

Congrats to our Build Your Own Snowman winner, RJ!
Just before the holidays kicked in, the Geeks got together and checked out all the snowy entries. We loved every single one of them, but RJ’s adorable snowman family melted our hearts.
If you haven’t built enough snowmen yet, then you’re in luck! The CodeGeek snowman app will be live until Punxsutawney Phil’s shadow is nowhere to be found.
Thanks to everyone who entered our Snowman + Nuance Chocolate giveaway! ⛄️

Project Highlight

Fort Collins Marketplace — In last month’s Geek Beat, we announced the launch of the brand-spankin' new Fort Collins Marketplace, just in time for the holidays.
You can bet your bottom dollar, however, that our joy surrounding this launch is anything but seasonal!
The purpose of Fort Collins Marketplace is to help local businesses thrive. This past year has been tough for so many, and this web app is meant to provide both exposure and revenue opportunities, especially for businesses without e-commerce capabilities.

Revenue lost during the pandemic created a situation where time was of the essence. The Geeks worked quickly with the Visit Fort Collins team, who owns the online marketplace.
- In 13 weeks, the site was up and generating revenue for artisans, authors, toy store owners, tea sellers, a builder-turned-furniture maker and many more.
- Just two weeks after launch, Fort Collins Marketplace reported 200 orders with 527 items sold, and total sales surpassing $13,000.

The Marketplace has also garnered lots of interest from the local press:
We are so grateful to have been a part of this project—and for all the ways the Marketplace will help others connect with the products and people that make Fort Collins special.

Where In The World Are The Geeks?
Mona’s Christmas view from her Rome home is a sight to behold (as is her fake mustache).

Jamie snapped this pic of the “Christmas Star” on Dec 21, which is when Jupiter and Saturn engaged in their “great conjunction.”

During the break, Megan taught her cat Avery how to shake hands for treats. And she's got video to prove it.
