Over the weeks leading up to Old Bill’s, I’m focusing on a slice of the nonprofit community. This week, I’m paying tribute to all of our heroes in Health and Human Services organizations.
Dear Foundation Friends,
Who is your 911? Who do you call when you need help?
We’re all good right up to the moment when we’re not. There is a group of people who hold the community’s safety net. They do it together so they can catch any one of us when we fall. The safety net is held by people who care more about you than they do about business hours, or their own dinner. They will take your call no matter the hour and help you find a way forward.
Health and Human Services organizations are a pocketful of gorgeous. They keep us whole, healthy, grounded, centered, employed. Some of them help us learn new skills and how to master new tools, while others build our confidence so that we are empowered to live and earn to our potential. Some organizations open doors for us – to food, education, jobs, sports, essential material goods, a place at their table.
These organizations keep us healthy but also make us whole when we are ill, broken, or living with fear. And some of them rescue us when our lives are on fire, when we are lost in the wilderness, lost to mental health challenges, or we’ve lost our way. They shine a light in our darkness.
Many Health and Human Services organizations operate under the radar, but their services are over the top. That’s why they need our top-level support.
Please give to our essential, safety net organizations during Old Bill’s. You can give until it hurts. This group has plenty of bandages.
Warm regards,

Laurie Andrews
