Dear Friends of the Community Foundation,

It is times like this that I feel Jackson is so much more than a stunning landscape, it is truly one of the most amazing places to call home. I knew that joining the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole would mean going deeper and broader in our community. I had no idea that it would happen so quickly. The last two weeks  - and especially the last few days - have shown me that together we are strong and that if we lead with our hearts – for our neighbors, for our most vulnerable populations – we are an extraordinary community. I have witnessed the community response to the COVID-19 virus coming to our region, and I have new found respect and appreciation for our health care providers, our first responders, our elected officials, and our nonprofit organizations.
Here at the Community Foundation, we feel strongly that we have an important role to play as our community tries to navigate and better understand what the impact of COVID-19 will be here in Jackson Hole. The Foundation is taking proactive steps to support and safeguard our community.  As of today, we are launching the Community Emergency Response Fund. This fund will provide resources to organizations in our community that are working with groups who are disproportionally impacted by the coronavirus and the economic consequences of this outbreak. The Fund is designated to complement the work of public health and front-line health service providers and expand local capacity to address all aspects of the outbreak as efficiently as possible.
The Foundation committed $170,000 toward this Fund and generous board members have already doubled the amount dedicated to serve our community in this time of need. We consider this Phase I of the Fund as we continue to be in the mitigation aspect of dealing with the virus here in Wyoming. We anticipate an increased demand for medical information and support in the weeks to come and are ready to assist our partners immediately as they identify those pressing needs. We are working with One22 through their COVID-19 Financial Relief Awards, which provide funds to help to local residents dealing with unforeseen hardship and loss of income such as those incurred with the precautionary cancellation of events or voluntary self-isolation.
Another key aspect of our role is to provide a communication hub for the community and nonprofits. A growing list of resources can be found on our website along with more information about the Community Emergency Response Fund. We are also helping to coordinate communications among service groups within the nonprofit sector to ensure a thoughtful and synchronized response to the needs of the Jackson community during this time.
Together I know we can help our community weather this challenge with compassion and understanding.  I am grateful to be part of this organization that is having a positive impact on the place we call home – every day.
Warm regards,

Laurie Andrews
