Dear Blues Lovers,
With cooler weather coming, we anticipate there will be some unique outdoor music performances that will make it comfortable to sit in open spaces with lots of sunshine. At the moment indoor music performances are not permitted, but we can still see some great outdoor shows at Hudson Valley venues, wineries, orchards, drive-ins, and more. Please help support these venues and musicians.
As you know the Board of the Hudson Valley Blues Society made a thoughtful and hard decision to withdraw from the International Blues Challenge to be held in Memphis, January 2021. We did receive word from the Blues Foundation that they decided it was in the best interest of all musicians, societies, and blues lovers, to cancel the 2021 IBC and reschedule for 2022 competition. We are still looking forward to holding a "Pre-Comp" event in the future for a practice competition. When it is safe for bands, venues, and audiences, we will let you know the schedule.
Now for some great news! We have received an abundance of submissions for our upcoming compilation CD, which will be an HVBS fundraiser. The music is outstanding! We can't wait for the final product and to show the blues world that the Hudson Valley of New York State knows how to keep the blues alive. More details coming soon on the release date.
We thank the many members who have renewed their membership during this tough time. Each one of us knows how important music is to our well being, as a musician or an audience. Without the support from our community, it would be tough to keep the HVBS moving forward. We are happy to let you know that Danielle Nicole is coming back in March at Daryl's House, and the Professor Louie's Century of the Blues concert with Joe Louis Walker, Guy Davis and the Crowmatix are rescheduling their show for early spring at the Paramount Hudson Valley. Also, our board is working hard on future events for the rebirth of local music. We are always looking for great ideas and great people. Let us know if you would like to be part of HVBS.
We also welcome musician Dave Keyes as a new members to HVBS. Check out his website on our bands page at https://www.thehvbs.org/bands.html.
Remember to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, as well as checking our website (www.thehvbs.org) for updates and events. Please be safe and we look forward to seeing everyone soon. Thanks for keeping the blues alive!
