In early July 2018, Friends of Nachusa Grasslands kicked off a Science Program Fundraising Challenge via social media. Friends has been offered a generous 1:1 match if we raise $20,000 designated for Science Grants at Nachusa Grasslands by December 31, 2018. To date, we have achieved about 60% of our target.
Our Science Challenge Campaign will continue until we reach our $20,000 goal.
Science Challenge Introduction with Friends of Nachusa Grasslands Vice President Mike Saxton and Nachusa Researchers
In the last 8 years, Friends has awarded $124,000 to 43 different scientists from 11 universities to conduct research at Nachusa Grasslands.
Generous support has allowed for the study of bison impacts on soil microbial communities, grassland bird nesting success, small mammal abundance, bee diversity, dung beetle populations, stream water quality and many other facets of this interconnected landscape.
