The latest news about what's happening in the Northern Home Counties

The perfect gift for all walkers - A Ramblers Calendar for 2013!

For the first time in the Northern Home Counties, a calendar of special locations has been produced to inspire you for 2013.

All the images have been supplied by real Ramblers on their adventures. Not only are there some spectacular shots of landscapes in some popular walking destinations, there are also some images which have been taken locally.

The calendar has been created to raise funds for the charity. As a Rambler you will know that protecting our footpaths and open spaces is one of the charity's priorities. And to continue our campaigning work, funds are always required.

I hope you will like the calendar. The suggested donation is just £5 per purchase.

If you would like to order one, or two, or three, then please send me your contact details as well as a cheque for the number of calendars you would like to buy. Please provide the following information:

OAR - a new long distance path

The Aylesbury and District Ramblers have been working hard to create a new long distance path in Aylesbury - known as the Outer Aylesbury Ring (OAR). Fundraising to waymark the route which is now mapped out is underway. The path is 55 miles and takes walkers through some of the best views of the Vale. To find out more go to

Press and Publicity Training

A recent survey which was sent out to groups and areas in the Northern Home Counties indicated there was a need for more press / promotion /publicity training. It is anticipated that this will be delivered in the New Year. To register your interest in attending one of these sessions, please contact me on

I would like to extend my thanks to all the volunteers who stood in fields with me this summer promoting the Ramblers. It was great fun and a real insight into what the public perception of the Ramblers actually is. While a presence at the larger shows was beneficial for brand awareness, the hyper-local events seemed to attract the right sort of people - local people for local walks. PLease let me know if you have any village days; fetes; annual town events which you think might be worth attending in 2013.
Bedfordshire Walking Festival: More than 70 walks and some 1500 participants later, it has been declared that the 2012 Bedfordshire Walking Festival was the most sucessful to date. But never one to rest on his laurels, Area Chair for the Bedfordshire Ramblers and Festival Organiser, Barry Ingram has already announced the dates for next year and is in full planning mode. So why not support this fantastic event by leading a walk. Contact Barry here if you are interested>>>>>
