Adaptation and Transformation

"Adaptation is the process of adjusting to our environment as well as adjusting things to make them more suitable to a different situation."

Adapting to new and different situations builds and strengthens our resilience. It  prepares us, our communities, and our state to better manage the challenges of today. This time of turmoil we are experiencing with the pandemic, economic stress and social unrest, provides us with an opportunity to evaluate our situation and make the important changes vital to transforming our future. Let’s continue with what has worked, learn from what hasn’t, and make bold decisions regarding how we transform our communities so all New Mexicans stay healthy, stay employed, and are positioned for success in the future – whatever that may be.

These are bold changes I will champion to transform our future:

  • Widen our access to affordable and effective healthcare – universal coverage, telemedicine
  • Decouple our economy from oil and gas revenue – diversify our economy, tax reform
  • Transition to wind and solar energy generation – become a green energy leader
  • Provide reliable high-speed broadband to our rural communities – end the digital divide
  • Advocate for our veterans – hold the VA and other federal agencies accountable
  • Provide quality education and vocational training with stable program funding
Let’s turn this crisis into an opportunity for adaptation and transformation!

Primary night 2020 was full of surprises!
Newcomers won races over long term incumbents cementing a new make up of the NM Senate. Statewide turn out was up almost 21% from 2016! Absentee voting was a big hit and the safest bet this year. The 2020 absentee voter turn out was 62% of the vote, up from 4% in 2016. With 43/53 precincts fully counted, Claudia earned 4,803 votes from Democrats in Senate District 19. This is a 28% increase in Democratic voter turn out over the 2016 primary. On the GOP side, the incumbent, Sen James White, lost to his challenger, Rep Gregg Schmedes, in their primary. Thank you for your support in getting us this far - now on to November!"

Thanks to all of you that joined our Primary Night Watch Party. It turns out you can have a ton of fun at a Zoom party! We heard from a number of candidates about their races and what they expect to happen in the general election. We had commentary on several of the key state races and on some national races too. We want to give a special shout out to our State Auditor, Brian Colon, who "dropped by" to say hello and wish
Claudia and Jessica well.
