In the Spotlight
District C
Back in 2016, when fire tore through Fort McMurray, Community Leagues in District C responded with action. Halls became collection points for donations and for an attempt to offer those fleeing something we all value: a sense of home and safety.

Who Will Your League Thank?
EFCL asks Leagues to find central volunteer for invite-only event
Thanking volunteers is essential. But our volunteers hope their work is recognized by their peers. We've got just the thing.
As part of our 100th Anniversary celebration, EFCL is creating an invite-only event in October for Leagues to thank a volunteer from the present day or long in the past. This event will also see Leagues imortalize their stories in a time capsule.
We're asking Leagues to determine the volunteer, living or not, who made the biggest change in your community. As we get closer to October we'll help Leagues gather stories and prepare to thank their volunteer hero.

Leagues and Municipal Elections
Leagues must be non-partisan as Edmonton elects next council
League members are city builders and passionate. But as Edmonton heads to the ballot box to elect its next mayor and council, all Leagues must be mindful that our activities must remain non-partisan.
Recently, the EFCL hosted an 'Ask Me Anything' event with executive director Laura Cunningham-Shpeley. We were asked many tough questions and presented many difficult scenarios. We are developing resources to help answer these and plan to hold further 'Ask Me Anything' discussions.

We have created resources to support allyship and inclusion throughout the work Leagues and the EFCL does.

Goodbye and Hello
EFCL bids Stephanie fair winds, welcomes Jonathan
It's with heavy hearts that we at EFCL bid Community Planning Advisor Stephanie Kovach farewell. Stephanie was by near unanimous description a rock star who helped navigate a path for communities to engage more effectively on development. Fittingly, Stephanie was recently featured in a City of Edmonton video discussing how community advocacy lead to the 40km/h speed limit on residential streets.
We now welcome Jonathan Lawrence into the position.
Good luck Stephanie, and welcome, Jonathan.

We respectfully acknowledge the land upon which the EFCL operates is located on Treaty 6 Territory and has served a purpose as a traditional meeting ground for many First Nations groups. This territory has provided a traveling route and home to the Nakoda Sioux, and later, Blackfoot and Cree peoples, followed by Saulteaux and Métis and other Indigenous peoples.
