Virtual mental health clinic pilot experience
With the participation of 14 professionals from Colombia, Honduras and Panama (2 country managers, 4 experts and 8 participants), this mental health Virtual Clinic pilot experience was carried out in PAHO/WHO Virtual Campus for Public Health, between October 30, 2017 and April 15, 2018. The project was promoted by PAHO/WHO Mental Health and Substance Use Unit in answer to the need to incorporate new instruments and practices to support the daily work of already trained primary care professionals that treat people with mental, neurological and substance use disorders, based on the mhGAP strategy.

Mental health mission in Jamaica
Kingston, June 3. - The Mental Health and Substance Use Unit of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Jamaica PAHO/WHO Country Office facilitated a mental health mission to Jamaica that included the participation of Prof. Benedetto Saraceno, Former Director of the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse in the World Health Organization, and Dr. Claudina Cayetano, Regional Advisor on Mental Health at PAHO in Washington D.C.

Barbados - Caribbean regional training of trainers for mental health and psychosocial support in disasters
Bridgetown, July 9. - Addressing mental health and psychosocial support is a priority in disaster preparedness efforts both at the regional and national levels. As the Caribbean Region prepares for possible impacts from the 2018 Atlantic Hurricane Season, a four-day training of trainers was organized by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Mental Health and Substance Use Unit, with financial contribution from PAHO’s Subregional Program Coordination and Health Emergency Department, as well as Public Health England.

Bolivia - Andean countries met in Bolivia to strengthen national mental health programs
Santa Cruz de la Sierra, July 10-12.- The Andean countries Mental Health Directors Meeting was organized by the Andean Health Body - Convenio Hipólito Unanue (ORAS - CONHU) - and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO). Participants met to analyze mechanisms for strengthening the leading role of health ministries and the functioning of health services regarding care and rehabilitation delivery, with a community-based model, to promote mental well-being and prevent mental, neurological and substance use disorders.

Peru - Regional health coordinators are trained in community mental health management
Lima, July 24. - The Peruvian Ministry of Health and PAHO/WHO are organizing the face-to-face phase of the "Management of mental health services virtual course" with the aim of strengthening the community mental health services model in the country. Yuri Cutipé, Minsa’s Executive Director of Mental Health, and Andrea Bruni, PAHO's Subregional Advisor on Mental Health, highlighted that the strengthening of regional coordinators’ capacities will enable the delivery of community mental health services focused on people.
