National Youth Council Summer Bursary

Cavan County Council will provide a bursary for a youth worker to attend The Big Project 2016, the National Youth Council of Ireland's Summer School. This is a three-day residential youth arts practice training in NUI Galway, running from 8th-10th June 2016. The theme this year is The Big Project - creating a piece of street theatre.

Easter 1916 by Paul Galligan
 

Easter 1916 is an exhibition of paintings by Paul Galligan. Last September the artist responded to a call by the 1916 Cavan Commemoration Committee for communities and artists to remember this period in Irish history and reflect on it. Paul completed 21 paintings in response. The exhibition will continue at Johnston Central Library Events Space until 31 May.

Reflecting on history at St Bricín's

'Reflecting', is a project that sees the first and fifth year students of St Bricin's, Belturbet respond to the Reflective Space at Cavan County Museum. For the past four months, the students have worked with class teacher Sinead Leahy and Pawel and Kasia from Konik Artists' Studios, examining themes of reflection against the backdrop of the 1916 Commemorations and the World War I Trench Experience at Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff.

The work will be launched at the Museum on the 27th May.

Theatre and comedy at Townhall 

This month, Townhall Cavan plays host to live comedy from Edwin Sammon and theatre from Pat Kinevane and Fishamble.

Edwin Sammon vs Cancer (20th May) is the Offaly comedian and TV star's hilarious account of his very real and serious battle with illness.

On 28th May, Townhall welcomes Fishamble Theatre with Pat Kinevane's acclaimed 'Underneath', the Olivier Award winner's latest one-man play. Not to be missed.

Bullock Lane Artists' residency 

Artists are now invited to apply for the opportunity to work at Bullock Lane Studio at Townhall, Cavan. Artists will receive financial support of €125 pw and the use of this studio facility. Additional support may be available to assist with community engagement.
