Tender for Musician, Singer or Musical Facilitator

Cavan County Council arts and heritage offices invites tenders for Musicians / Singers or Musical Facilitators to work with children in Four National Schools in County Cavan to produce a song or piece of music suitable for the children to commemorate and reflect on 1916 Themes.   The resulting work will be recorded and will be performed by the collective of children.

Cavan's Artist-in-Residence tours overseas

Having founded, curated and contributed to 'Landscape & Memory', Cavan's Artist in Residence has developed a body of work of International standing.

'Landscape and Memory' Exhibition has travelled to the Iranian Art Home, Iran and an opening of the exhibition takes place on 26 November 2015. The exhibition will then travel to Chazou Gallery in Canada in March 2016 and Athens, Greece in November 2016.

Splanc! opportunities

TG4 and An Chomhairle Ealaíon/the Arts Council invite submissions for a special season of Splanc! to celebrate and commemorate 2016 in Art.

Splanc! is the Irish language arts documentary scheme that supports the creative exploration of the arts in Ireland.  This season aims to fund short films of 3 - 5 minutes in duration on any art form which will form a collective response to 100 years of art in Ireland.   A total fund of €120,000 is available to support up to nine short films.

Townhall Cavan Arts Space|Opening Weekend
Thursday, 29th October – Sunday, 1 November, 2015
A four-day, round-the-clock ‘neon wake’, luminescent funeral pyres, nightmare jazz parades and a deathly ‘Ship of Fools’ will take you on a madcap, macabre theatrical journey through ‘The Thin Veil’ to the other world as Cavan Town’s new Townhall Arts Space opens with a ‘Festival of the Dead: The Last Waltz’ from 29 October – 1 November.

‘The Thin Veil’
The festival kicks off with the world premiere of award-winning playwright Philip Doherty’s new play ‘The Thin Veil’. It is a shiver-inducing experience, with live music, seeped in magical realism and myth. Thursday, 29th October at 7.30pm and Friday 30th October at 7.30pm and 9pm. Admission is €15.

‘The Neon Wake’
The Front Room of the Townhall Arts Space will be transformed into a Irish scullery where a transparent, neon coffin will be suspended as the focal point for storytelling, recitals, music sessions, and a whole range of performance from local and international artists, celebrating life and death. The wake performances will continue round the clock for 72 hours, celebrating the past life of the Townhall. 
72-hour ongoing performance, every hour on the hour. Admission is free.
The Ship of Fools
‘The Ship of Fools’ is a music and theatre experience created by Robbie Perry (Dead Can Dance) where audiences are lured onto a ship with no captain to secret locations around Cavan in search of the Paradise of Fools. It features performances by a host of artists including Ronan Ó Snodaigh (Kíla), Larry Beau, Daragh Slacke, Dee Armstrong and artist John Adams.  
Saturday, 31 October, at 7.30pm, 9pm, 10.30pm and midnight. Limited places available. Admission €25.
‘Bed’ by Jane McCormick
Artist Jane McCormick will present her art installation in Townhall’s gallery space for the duration of the festival.Bed’ is a development from a series of work called ‘The Incubation’, which toured to galleries on both sides of the border in 1997-99. 
All weekend. Admission free.
The Fire on the Gallows
On Sunday, 1 November at 6pm, as the Neon Wake draws to a close, the Neon coffin will be burned in a funeral pyre at the Gallows Hill, followed by The Jazz Nightmare Parade - Fiesta del es Muertos - A New Orleans style night-time street parade through the streets of Cavan with brass and jazz musicians, dancers and fire-performers. 
Sunday 1st November 2015, 6pm, starting location Townhall Cavan. Dress up as the dead! Families welcome Admission Free. Face-painting from 3pm – 5pm.

Monthly Workshop for Junior & Leaving Cert Art Students


A Monthly Workshop for Junior and Leaving Certificate Art Students commences Friday, 30th October at Whitethorn Studio Virginia.

The workshop will run one evening a month from 6pm to 8.30pm. The workshop dates are 

Oct 30th, Nov 27th, Jan 29th, Feb 26th, Mar 25th, April 29th. The cost is €25 per workshop. Students must sign up to a minimum of 4 workshops (€100).
