'The Souvenir Shop' by Rita Duffy

Cavan native Rita Duffy is one of a select number of artists selected by the State to produce the arts programme for the 1916 centenary celebrations next year.

The body of work she is preparing for 2016, 'The Souvenir Shop', will examine the shifting meanings and commoditization of gestures and symbols associated with the revolution, examining how the images, objects and themes of the 1916 Easter Rising and conflict more generally become ‘souvenirs’.

Children's play at Townhall Cavan

'The Tale of Two Storeys’ is the warm, quirky and flat-out hilarious new children’s play from Ashleigh Dorrell. A fairytale for the modern world, ‘The Tale of Two Storeys’ tells the story of Dawn and Joe, a lonely girl and boy who live in the same apartment building, but who have never met.

Applications open for Arts Awards

The Arts Awards is our annual funding scheme, which aims to support the ongoing development of the arts in the county. Both Arts Awards and Professional Development Awards are available.

The Arts Awards are suitable for individuals or organisations including festivals, communities, schools and educational organisations to support an arts event or project.

The Professional Development Award is most suited to professional artists. The Professional Development Award provides funding to individual professional artists based in Cavan who earn a proportion or all of their annual income through their artistic practice.

Available funding is modest and applicants are encouraged to be mindful of this before preparing an application.
