Juggling as Healing


I've always been amazed at the power of juggling and laughter to bring healing where there is darkness and pain (both for myself and others). Last week, I performed my school assembly at a high school that just days before I came, experienced a traumatic event where one kid stabbed another in the middle of a class. The victim is now recovering at home. The administrator who invited me sent me some parent feedback:

"In the middle of an extremely stressful week, my child came home from school today talking excitedly about the presentation he saw in the gym. He was laughing and smiling. He couldn't wait to tell us about some of the amazing stunts performed, and he was extremely impressed that the performer had run a marathon while juggling the whole time. When I asked him why the school had invited a juggler in, he said because he is awesome for one, and for two, he wanted to inspire us to keep trying when things get frustrating. Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for my child."

The day dawned early – 5 A.M.

We loaded the cars for Junior Jam

“It’s for the kids to become wise”

But lo and behold to our surprise –

We learned

Through ‘Jesse the Juggler’s’ creative tricks

And Heartsong blessing us with their lips

The message of Christ came to us all

In different forms, down different halls

It’s not just for the kids we began to see

God’s creativity lives in me.
