Homeowner Assistance Fund
The State of Hawai‘i and the counties of Hawai‘i and Kaua‘i joined nonprofit community development financial institution, Hawai‘i Community Lending (HCL), to announce the launch of a new $5-million Homeowner Assistance Fund. The U.S. Congress established the fund in the Department of the Treasury with the purpose of mitigating financial hardships associated with the coronavirus pandemic. The fund will provide homeowners with grants to prevent mortgage delinquencies, defaults and foreclosures.

The Future USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) Made Its Way to Hilo

The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer, named in honor of the late U.S. Senator from Hawaii and World War II Medal of Honor recipient, left General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, on October 4th en route to its home port, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam on Oahu.

The future USS Daniel Inouye, or DDG 118, cruised off the coast of Hilo on Tuesday morning as it headed toward Oahu. I was honored to represent the state legislature at this first stop, especially since a Hilo resident is one of the sailors on board and a 442nd veteran was present at this first viewing. Senator Daniel Inouye was a good friend to the Big Island ensuring funding for Saddle Road, pharmacy school, Hakalua Forest Preserve, airports and much more.

The National Foundation for Women Legislators held their annual conference and I, along with Rep. Sylvia Luke, was awarded the Elected Women of Excellence Award.

The Elected Women of Excellence Award was created to identify elected women who have worked tirelessly, often breaking down barriers and overcoming obstacles that once seemed insurmountable, to serve their communities. These pacesetters have engendered an environment where women can now serve in public office and fight for the issues they are passionate about.
