A tremendous THANK YOU to Betty Cruz for sharing how investing in real estate allows her to fuel her passion for spreading kindness and giving back to our community!
As part of her mission to inspire kindness, Betty handed out $20 to a few careful listeners and challenged them to use the money to give back AND to double the gift!
~Ruben Galindo surprised a waiter by leaving a BIG tip!
~Rosa Tejado bought Christmas presents for foster teenagers!
What an inspirational challenge!

Profile of a BREW Investor:
Stefanie Johnson-Sykes

What inspired you to become interested in real estate investing?

Finance freedom is what has inspired me to venture into real estate investing. I would like the freedom to spend time with those I love, help those in need and truly enjoy life. I find it disheartens that we live in a society where we spend most of our years working to provide for a family we hardly see or make memories with.

Tell us about one of your favorite real estate transactions

My hope is this first fixer upper. My husband and I have purchased a 96 year old home that needs major renovations for our first project. While this is probably going to be our biggest learning curve and scariest deal because it is our first; I am confident that once it is completed we will be well on our way to a long future in real estate. We have an amazing mentor, Rick Pozos and the best real estate investor community, B.R.E.W. That anyone starting out could ask for.

Do you have any real estate mantras, rules, or words of wisdom you try to follow in your investing?

The 2 I have posted in my office and look at, at least 3 times a week when working my W2 (corporate) job are:
Life doesn't get better by chance, it gets better by change~ Jim Rohn
Wealth is not an accident, it is an action~ Brandon Turner

Please share a favorite business or real estate-related resource.

BiggerPockets for podcast for inspiration, ideas and reinforcement that I can and will do this. BiggerPockets Money has really helped me to focus on what's really important and gaining a better understanding of money. I was not taught finance in my home at young age and have had to learn and unlearn some of my thoughts and misconceptions about money. Lifeonaire by Steve Cook

What do you like to do during your "off" time?

Cycle, run, hike, roller skate, read, train~weight lift, fundraiser for worthy causes, travel, spend time with friends and family and eat. I love all things outdoors, I enjoy a challenge and I tend to be a little competitive which sometimes gets me into things that allow me to learn!!!

What else would you like your fellow meetup members to know about you?

I appreciate this community, the knowledge, the support and encouragement. Being around people with energy, drive and who are walking the walk is inspiring, challenging and makes you move!

What is the best way for someone to get in contact with you?

Via email or text, I'm not the greatest at social media but I'm going to get better.

Other thoughts?!

I really want to thank Todd and Elizabeth, you guys have created something very special! Thank you for welcoming me!

Books read in November
Good to Great by Jim Collins Embarrassed to admit this book has been on my shelf for MANY YEARS and I finally got around to reading it. I know I'm super late to the party and that is probably why it just didn't resonate with me. I believe I waited too long to read the book as it is very well-researched and seems to have a positive cult-like following but I've read/seen/heard the concepts presented in different formats, so the book fell flat for me. 2 out of 5 Cheers!
Rocket Fuel by Gino Wickman Another bust . . . I don't like being pigeonholed into a personality or work "type" and felt the concepts were fairly obvious. But again, I seem to be in the minority on this, so maybe take my review with a grain of salt, then a shot of tequila! 1 out of 5 Cheers!
The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry, by John Mark Comer I have mentioned this book before, but wanted to end on a positive note! :)
Best book I've read in 2021 hands down. 10 out of 5 Cheers!
