A new article has been posted on the IGRA website: "Researching Your Female Ancestors in Eretz Israel: Part One - The Ottoman Empire Period"
by Rose A. Feldman. This article provides clues on searching for females from the mid-1800's to 1917 - and some general clues that may help anyone looking for their female relatives.
IAJGS International Conference in Boston - AUGUST 4-9, 2013
IGRA will be well represented at the Boston conference. Look for us as lecturers, at the Share Fair and at our BOF (Birds of a Feather) meeting. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn, network and experience Jewish Genealogy and Boston. (Remember - the 2014 Conference will be in Salt Lake City and 2015 will be in Jerusalem!)
SEMINAR DAY at the National Library of Israel
On Wednesday, June 26, 2013 a day long seminar was held on Genealogy Resources at the National Library of Israel (for pictures click here
). The idea came as a result of the new project of a Genealogy Resource Center in the Judaica Reading Room of the National Library. The Center is staffed by volunteers and is open (by appointment
) on Mondays and Wednesdays. IGRA, the IGS and the IIJG are involved and each genealogy volunteer is joined by a library researcher. The lectures at the Seminar gave us the opportunity to understand the wealth of information available in the library holdings and to bring the resources of the genealogist in researching family history to the library staff. We look forward to additional cooperative ventures.
