The November calendar
should be checked on the IGRA website
! There are a variety of lectures in different venues - Jerusalem, Petach Tikva, Ra'anana and Tel Aviv. Lots of interesting topics and speakers beginning tomorrow. In addition there are events sponsored by other groups that are genealogy related - AACI, the National Library
, IGS Tel Aviv branch
, Yad Yitzchak Ben-Zvi
and Mishkenot Sha'ananim
. All of these programs are in English except the program at Yad Ben-Zvi.
Our October Event at Beit Hatfutsot was a success. We thank Gilad Japhet of MyHeritage for his lecture and the donation made to IGRA. Gilad's lecture will soon be available on the IGRA website
. We also thank Arnon Goldfinger for his film, "The Flat", and for our discussion with him. Many thanks also to all who worked to put the day together.
The last of the Montefiore censuses has been completed and released. IGRA members Rose Feldman, Billie Stein and Mathilde Tagger worked together with a group of dedicated volunteers to transfer the information in the Montefiore censuses
to a searchable database format with access in both Hebrew and English. Last week there was a special seminar in London, England on Sir Moses Montefiore and Rose Feldman represented us there and delivered a presentation on "The Historic, Sociological and Demographic Significance of the Montefiore Censuses of the Holy Land 1839-1875". At the end of November there will be an International Conference at Mishkenot Sha'ananim on "Moses Montefiore: The Man Behind the Windmill" and Mathilde Tagger will speak at one of the sessions on Friday, November 29 about the Montefiore Censuses Project. IGRA congratulates Rose, Billie and Mathilde on their accomplishment; recognizes and applauds their incredible contribution to preserving the history contained in these materials.
We hope you will each find something of interest this month and wish you good luck with your personal research.
