October 2015 Meetup

Wednesday, October 21st, 2015

October's MSP Audio Geeks meetup is Wednesday, October 21st from 7-9pm. Davide Raso and Owen Sartori of F5 Soundhouse will be our hosts. This month special guest Kyle Frenette, co-founder of Middle West Management, will be joining us to talk about the management side of the music business.

From the F5 website: "F5 is a boutique recording facility in the heart of the Minneapolis music scene. It incorporates the best in analog gear with modern recording and editing technology for a great-sounding, well-rounded product. We have, in total, four studios: two control rooms (studios A and B), a vocal room, a live room, a midi/editing suite (studio C), and a practice/performance room (Studio D).

From the Middle West website: "Middle West is an artist management firm founded on the acute quiet of Midwestern work ethic. Independently strong since 2010, Middle West is dedicated to fostering good music and the musicians who make it in the most professional and diverse of ways within the ever-changing landscape of its industry. With offices in Minneapolis, MN, Brooklyn, NY, and Durham, NC, Middle West also offers label and business management services to its artists.

Co-founded by Kyle Frenette on the strength and experience of Bon Iver, Middle West began as just an idea on how to structure a new type of artist management firm. It has since grown into an evolving experiment that’s mission is to cultivate the next generation of artist managers. Middle West strives to establish a collaborative and professional environment for its managers to flourish, perfect their skills and provide the absolute best services they can for their artists. This is accomplished by way of a shared brain trust between all managers and personnel as well as Middle West’s atypical linear business model in which all members of the greater team are encouraged to contribute, learn and grow alongside each other and as a whole within the firm."

Feel free to invite a friend and BYOB. Please RSVP to mspaudiogeeks at gmail dot com if you are planning to attend.

F5 Soundhouse Artist Appreciation Open House

If you're unable to join us on October 21st for the meetup but still want to check out F5 Soundhouse, then you've got a second chance on Saturday, October 24th. F5 Soundhouse is hosting an open house from 10am-6pm.

The producers and engineers here at F5 SoundHouse are entering our 4th year in business. It's an important milestone, and we could not have done it without all of the amazing artists who have trusted us with their passion, expression, and most of all, their art. As our way of saying thank you, we are hosting an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 24th, to show our appreciation for everyone who has worked with us so far, as well as showcase what we offer to future potential clients.

We will have refreshments all day long, listening sessions in all of our studios, as well as short, live acoustic sets from our artists at the top of every hour (please contact us to schedule your very own mini set).

In addition to all of this, we will be celebrating the release of several records this year, including music from F5 artists and engineers. This includes our very own Owner/Producers, Davide Raso and Owen Sartori, as well as our partners in Pacific Underground Recordings & Entertainment, Wally Joseph, Jacob Nelson, and Tim Kosel. You will be able to see our production facility, as well as our newly added rehearsal and photography studio space! We look forward to showing you everything that we can do at F5 SoundHouse to help with all your professional creative needs.

Our artists, and their friends, their family, and their supporters are welcome! Remember, October 24th is coming up quickly, so save the date!!

Send WAM to AES!

Women's Audio Mission (WAM) is a San Francisco-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is dedicated to the advancement of women in music production and the recording arts, a field in which women are critically under-represented (less than 5%). WAM is changing the face of sound by providing women and girls with access to and training in music production and the techniques and technology used in the recording arts. In an era that is increasingly dependent on technology, WAM believes that women’s participation in this field will expand the voice of music and media, ensuring that women's ideas, interests, and points of view are conveyed throughout our culture and society.

WAM is currently holding an Indiegogo campaign to help raise funds so they can attend this year's AES convention this October in New York City. They have reached their initial goal of $5,000 but you can still donate to help send more of the crew to AES. They've got a lot of nifty perks at various price points if you'd like to help them on their way. Learn more and donate here.

If you're going to be at AES in October don't forget to stop by their booth and say hello.
