July 2019 MSP Audio Geeks meetup

Monday, July 29, 2019

The July 2019 MSP Audio Geeks meetup is this Monday, July 29th from 7-9pm at Hennepin Technical College's Eden Prairie campus. Thanks to Matt Holmes for hosting us!

This event will be a swap meet! If you have gear that you are looking to re-home - even if it needs repair - feel free to offer it up. All gear swap terms are to be determined directly by the individuals involved. If you bring something that doesn't have a new owner at the end of the night you may choose to donate it to the HTC Audio Production program - please check with Matt if it is something they could use. Gear donations are eligible for a tax-deductible donation.

Thanks also to Roll Music Systems for providing some tasty eats for us! Justin will also be available to answer questions about troubleshooting gear that may be in need of repair. He'll also be showcasing a PACE desoldering system.

About the HTC Audio Production program:
The Audio Production program at Hennepin Technical College has been training audio professionals for over 25 years and offers an AAS degree and Diploma. The facilities offer 7 full production studios and 18 DAW workstations. As part of the MinnState education system, the Audio Production program offers some of the lowest tuition in the State, while maintaining small class/lab sizes, and up to date equipment/gear. Matt Holmes has been a full-time faculty member for 13 years, along with studio manager/lab assistant Mike Byrne. Matt also is an engineer at Wild Sound Recording Studio in northeast Minneapolis.

A bit about Roll Music Systems:
Roll Music Systems is a small Minneapolis company specializing in analog gear that brings big-studio sound to smaller studios, including the Folcrom passive summing device and a line of all-tube 500-series modules. They also design products for other manufacturers and consult for studio installations around the world.

Invite your friends & join us for an evening of audio geekery! All are welcome to attend. ***Please note that you may BYOB but it must be of the non-alcoholic variety. We can always go out for an adult beverage afterwards.*** Hennepin Technical College is also a tobacco-free campus. Learn more about it here. If you are planning to attend please RSVP to mspaudiogeeks at gmail dot com.

From the group's description:
"This is a space for all the Mpls-St. Paul folk (current or former) who spend a lot of time in the studio. This is a place for engineers, producers, songwriters, and session guys and gals to talk gear, share techniques, encourage each other, network, and collaborate."

If you're not yet a member, simply request to join the group and an admin will add you. With 500 people in the group, it's a great place to share ideas, learn from each other, and meet new people.

Audio Society of MN

The Audio Society of MN is on its summer hiatus. Meetings will start up again in September.

"The Audio Society of Minnesota is a noncommercial hobby organization incorporated in 1979. We present monthly meetings from September to May/June of each year where we discuss, learn about, and experience the latest and greatest audio gear and software. Of course, we also operate this web page.

We support all audiophile interests. We have tube freaks and solid-state freaks, people who only listen to digital and people who would be happy if digital had never been invented, folks who have never seen an LP in their lives and others who have thousands, members who think nothing of making major expenditures for audio gear and others who are interested in the best bang for their buck, some with advanced degrees in engineering and some who don't know an Ohm from a Watt, those who think of their hobby as a science and those who think of it as an art. But we all have one thing in common: We love music and we love to hear it accurately and emotionally recreated in our homes.

Join: Individuals may join the ASM at any time by paying the annual dues of $25 at any meeting. Club dues for those who join after our December break are just $15."

The Audio Society of MN is currently on its summer hiatus. To find out more, check out their website at audiomn.org or their Facebook page at facebook.com/audiosocietyofmn.
