Work Space Smarts: Lets review your office space set up to get it working for you rather you trying to find “stuff” all the time.  Cubicle, closed door office, home office – wherever it is that you are doing your work on a consistent basis needs to support you rather than create confusion and “clutter” brain.  I review my space quarterly because I can easily make a mess in my office (just like you) in an hour.  This checklist is to simplify and support your work space so you can do the work more easily.
Whether it is paper or electronic, make sure it is working well.  You should be able to access your information immediately and use your device and calendar instantly. 
Hanging a paper calendar on the wall is a great idea. It is right there and you can check the dates with a glance. Picking up your device each time to check a date can interrupt the flow of thinking and take you away easily through texting and apps.
A walk clock is another way to easily glance at the time and not use your device.  I am a huge advocate for using the device, but when needed.  We are too easily distracted when we touch the thing we are tied to 24/7.
When was the last time you make sure your chair was supporting you?  Height, cushion, back rest?
No more sticky notes on the monitors please (or anywhere else in the office).  They are clutter, distracting and you have too many of them.  Take the notes and put them into your calendar notes.  Make this information work for you instead of cluttering your space.
Put your device and email on silence when you work in your office.  We are so responsive to the text and email ding that it distracts us immediately from what we are doing.
Remember, you desk space is sacred.  Make it clean, clear and only hold what you need.  Put your paper and other “stuff” away from the work and thinking area.
