BIO-Europe Spring was here

During three intense days on April 4-6, BIO-Europe Spring took place in Stockholm. Stockholm Science City Foundation was one of the hosts of the event and participated at the exhibition of the meeting as well as in the partnering discussions.

In collaboration with Karolinska Institutet and Hagastaden Property Developers, SSCi hosted one of the evening receptions, a well-visited event where the delegates of the conference got the opportunity to visit Aula Medica and enjoy the concert grand piano in action.

In addition, we arranged a seminar during the conference, on the topic How could life science industry capitalize on a life science cluster? With a panel representing industry, healthcare, academia and cluster research. Professor Mary Walshok was responsible for the latter and shared her thoughts on what the essential components of a cluster is, when it is functional - and when not.

The panel discussion was also held outside of the conference, at a breakfast seminar in collaboration with Stockholm Business Region Development on April 6

Mary Walshok also visited the construction site of the New Karolinska Solna during her visit in Sweden and shared her view on the life science cluster in Hagastaden, and it impact on society.
- This is one of the most exciting developments in the world >>.

A world class science city

In 2007, the business community, four universities, the City of Stockholm and Solna and Stockholm County Council were united in their shared vision for an area that was at that time an eyesore in terms of infrastructure and poorly utilised land in central Stockholm.

We are talking about the Norra Station district, strategically located, with a large concentration of research and enterprise activities in the life sciences in the vicinity. The conclusion of this agreement was that a brand new city district should be built here, with world-leading life science research and enterprise activities. And the area would be called Hagastaden – a world-class science city!
