LATEST NEWS | Annual Report

Our Kupu 2016 Annual Report is now available on our website. Check out some of the amazing stories about our program participants from last year, as well as the incredible impact our youth and partners have made on the environment, our communities and the state’s economy. SPOTLIGHT | Justine Espiritu


From Kupu RISE intern to grants and programs manager for Bikeshare Hawaii (which recently launched its biki bikeshare system throughout urban Honolulu), Kupu alumna Justine Espiritu has been busy establishing a career in sustainability, and making a positive impact on our community. We caught up with Justine to see what she’s been up to since her first Kupu internship more than five years ago. Check out her amazing journey.

CREW | Nate Gyotoku

From growing up on the Big Island to making a big impact on local business, Nate Gyotoku is bridging his business acumen with the green jobs sector at Kupu. Joining our crew as director of Sustainability Initiatives this past spring, Nate has hit the ground running, taking innovative approaches and building new relations for Kupu. Read More.   

IN THE FIELD| Aloha+ Challenge

Kupu interns rise to the Aloha+ Challenge in a new Communications Specialist Internship through Kupu’s Sustainability Initiatives (SI) program. Learn about how four of our smart and savvy SI interns are helping to get the word out about this first-of-its-kind, public-private partnership commitment to sustaining Hawaii’s environment. RECAP | HCA Conservation Conference

Kupu Conference Session
Kupu packed the house during our Hawaii Conservation Alliance Conservation Conference session last week with our inter-generational talk story circles. Please keep an eye out for more information and photos on our Facebook page.  

Inaugural Kupu Alumni Event
Kupu held its first-ever alumni event at Home Bar following the Conference. Nearly 120 recent and past Kupu program participants joined Kupu staff and partners for a casual night of talking story, catching up and networking. Photos from the event coming soon. Contact us to join our Kupu alumni network to receive updates about the next alumni gathering and opportunities.   

COMMUNITY | Mālama Pupukea

Crystal clear water and blue skies were the backdrops for Kupu's Hawai'i Youth Conservation Corps (HYCC) Summer program recent service project with Mālama Pūpūkea-Waimea. HYCC Summer program members helped to remove invasive species, protect native plants and support biological monitoring at Pūpūkea. Read more and check out photos from the day here
