Welcome to the eighteenth edition of our e-newsletter!

This fortnight we have sourced some useful resources for the voluntary sector and in addition to these we are advertising another job opportunity with SVS.

Furthermore, we have been asked to advertise an opportunity to be on BBC3's Free Speech programme, some other events in the city and we also have a funding opportunity, in addition to our funders of the week.

News

Who do they think we are?

Public view of charity
NPC has published "Mind the gap: what the public thinks about charities". This research It explores whether recent attacks on charities from politicians and the media have adversely affected attitudes.

HOPE Community School

Plans for a new primary school in SO14
Billy Kennedy (New Community) and Paul Woodman (City Life Church) are supporting an application to the Department for Education for a new Primary School in the city centre by local community leaders. The bid will be for a new Free School led by New Generation Schools Trust. The basis for the bid is the lack of school places in Southampton City Centre from 2015.

ABC guide to health and safety
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has developed a range of tools and guidance to help small and medium sized businesses understand health and safety - 'ABC An easy guide to health and safety'. This includes simple interactive tools for small offices and charity shops, which may be useful to local voluntary groups.

Inquiry into home care of older people

Your Home Care and Human Rights 
Your Home Care and Human Rights is a booklet published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) for older people who are receiving care at home. The Guide explains how human rights protect home care service users and explains their rights to home care. The booklet is free and the postage will be paid by EHRC.

BBC3 Free Speech Programme

BBC3’s Free Speech is back, and looking to meet young people who want their voices to be heard. This live political debate show, hosted by Rick Edwards aims to give young people aged 16-34 a platform to voice their opinions to the people who can help make a difference. The third episode is on the 10th April in Winchester and will be focusing on the issues that young people want to talk about.

The one and only business showcase on the south coast, that offers business women a platform to get together, learn from one another, confidently exchange business ideas, and shine with pride.

Your Health, Your Community, Your Vote

You are invited to the 7th annual 'Your Health, Your Community, Your Vote' event to take part in deciding how to spend £50,000 in your community.

Funding

ESF Community Grants programme open for applications

A new phase of the ESF Community Grants programme is now open for applications.  The programme is all about funding small organisations to develop the skills and employability of people who are currently unemployed.  As with the 2011-13 programme, applications will be welcome from organisations working with people who live in Hampshire, Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight or Southampton.
