Welcome to the nineteenth edition of our e-newsletter!
This fortnight we have details of a new support group for women, some training opportunities and information workshops, details of events throughout the city, including St George's Day events and how to get involved. Finally we have our funders of the week.
Serenity is a new support group to help women tackle issues such as anxiety, depression and borderline personality disorder. It provides an opportunity to talk openly with other women, in a confidential, caring and non-judgemental setting. It aims to create a space for women to grow in confidence and self-esteem and feel more empowered in their lives.
Lowering Language Barriers - Chalmers and Byrne Training
As you know, communicating with people who struggle to speak and understand English, can lead to difficult conversations for staff. Good communication saves time and money and reduces misunderstandings.
This one day session, Lowering Language Barriers, is a practical and innovative training for staff with frontline roles. It will give you the tools you need to adapt the way you talk and write to people who speak English as an additional language. Although we focus on communicating with speakers of other languages, the training is also relevant if you work with clients with low literacy, the elderly or people with learning difficulties.
VCSE Skills and Information Workshops - Victim's Services
Workshops will help VCSE organisations prepare for commissioning, and are designed to better enable frontline service providers to bid for grants and/ or contracts when tendering processes are launched.
St George's Day Walk - Sholing Valleys Study Centre
We will be taking a look at the ecology and history of the 3km greenway from Weston Shore to the Millers’ Pond Local Nature Reserve. The evening will finish at the Sholing Valleys Study Centre where a well-earned hot chocolate with all the trimmings awaits you and even a spot of bat watching at the pond.
Saturday Morning Social Group - Elders Transport Committee
Come and join us and make new friends or meet up with old ones on Saturday mornings from 11am have a light lunch for just £2.00. We are a group of volunteers who want to reduce isolation & loneliness in the Shirley area and perhaps you would like to join us or even volunteer?
Southampton Voluntary Services select a funding opportunity each week as our Funder of the Week, to provide organisations with up to date information on available funding resources - information which is also published to our website: www.southamptonvs.org.uk
