Welcome to the sixteenth edition of our e-newsletter!

This fortnight we have some information about the impact of the recession on under-25s, an SVS job opportunity, a couple of training opportunities, some events in and around the city and, last but not least: our funders of the week.

News

Homelessness problems for under-25s up 57 per cent as recession takes its toll

New figures published today show that the number of young people seeking help from a charity about homelessness and threatened homelessness has risen significantly since prior to the recession.
National charity Citizens Advice, today reports that the number of its clients aged 17-24 without a roof over their head increased by 57 per cent from 2007/08 to 2012/13. The number of issues of young people at risk of losing their home also rose steeply over the years of recession, with 39 per cent more young clients visiting their local Citizens Advice Bureaux for support over the period.

'It's a HIT programme' 2014 / 2015

Solent NHS Trust are pleased to present the new ‘It’s a HIT’ Health Improvement Training Programme for 2014/15.
 
Please do take a look in particular at any new courses you or your staff/colleagues may be interested in, for example:
·         NEW - Brief Interventions for Weight Management
·         NEW - Motivational Interviewing for Groups (applying motivational interviewing skills in a group setting)
·         NEW - Motivation Interviewing Level 3: The MI Network

Women's Wisdom FREE Learning Programme 2014

Participants can attend the whole programme or choose the modules that most suit their individual needs. Each module is embedded with employability and empowerment  by focusing on individual topics the participant has the opportunity to complete bit size blocks of learning that are useful as individual courses but can piece their own programme together by selecting a number of modules.
These courses are suitable for any adult over the age of 19 but are particularly useful for adults who are in receipt of JSA or ESA and are considering and exploring how to return to work.

3 - 9 March 2014 - Climate Week

There are just three weeks to go until Climate Week (3 - 9 March), when half a million people attend over 3,000 events in Britain's largest climate change campaign. If you are planning any kind of event or activity, you can register it on the Climate Week website. When you register your activities for the official listings, you will be helping to show that the movement for environmental change is alive and well, and you will be inspiring many others to run their own activities.
