Regional Growth Fund applicants reminded to seek LEP support early

HotSW is reminding businesses applying for funding from the Regional Growth Fund (RGF) about the deadline for applications.

As reported in the last newsletter, Round 6 of the Regional Growth Fund, which opened on 19 June 2014, makes at least £200m available to support projects that raise private sector investment to create economic growth and sustainable employment.

The deadline for submitting bids to Government is noon on 30 September 2014, however, HotSW wants to make sure businesses in its area benefit as much as possible from the fund. One of the ways in which businesses can strengthen their application is by having it endorsed by the LEP.

Businesses are therefore urged to submit their endorsement requests to the LEP as soon as possible and by 16 September at the latest.

Building Better Opportunities – Project Development Fund

A fund of up to £10,000 has been secured for the Heart of the South West area to support the Community and Voluntary Sector (CVS) in applying for EU funding.

The Big Lottery Fund is planning to allocate around £260m of Lottery funds alongside a similar figure of ESF money to support communities and people most in need across England.

As part of this, Big Lottery Fund has set up development funding in a number of LEP areas across the country, ahead of the main funding becoming available from 2015.  The aim is to ensure that community and voluntary organisations are supported and understand the opportunity and considerations surrounding bidding to deliver EU funds.

In the Heart of the South West area a Project Development Fund of up to £10,000 has been set up.

Big Lottery Fund are now seeking a CVS organisation to provide this support for the Heart of the South West area.  The deadline for applications is 2pm, Thursday 4 September 2014 - to find out more about the development fund, please visit

HotSW welcomes new team members

The LEP has recently been joined by two new team members as the Partnership continues its work to support the creation of more jobs, growth and prosperity.

Heidi Hallam has been appointed as the new Partnership Manager, looking after the LEP’s projects and work with partnerships.

This includes the enhancement of business and stakeholder engagement and supporting partnerships to take forward the Strategic Economic Plan, ESIF Strategy and Growth Deal.

A particular focus will be to progress those activities that currently do not have identified sources of funding, bringing projects forward, so that they are funding ready or facilitate progress through partnership rather than through specific funding programmes.

In addition Julia Stuckey is our Inward Investment Manager appointed through the Plymouth and SW Peninsular City Deal.

This role will coordinate our efforts to attract new businesses to relocate in the Heart of the South West and facilitate the marketing of the area’s strengths to inward investors.

In the autumn we will be joined by Paul Taylor, our new Head of Strategy and Operations, who joins us from Bristol City Council.

We will also be joined by a Communications Manager – both these roles will reduce our reliance on contracted out teams and enable us to increase the impact of our work.

These appointments will continue the existing momentum of the LEP and our current work to deliver the £130.3m Growth Deal announced by Government last month to support economic growth across Devon, Plymouth Somerset and Torbay.
