EU Structural and Investment Funds Strategy

The Heart of the South West LEP has been given an indicative timetable regarding the availability of EU Structural and Investment Funds Strategy (SIF) by Government.

The schedule provides rough timings for the next steps on the strategy, and suggests that all LEP strategies and the process for management and disbursement will be finalised by Government by the end of 2014.

We are pressing for this to be completed as speedily as possible and will provide regular updates in future newsletters.

The EU SIF document outlines how the provisionally allocated EU funds for the area will be distributed between 2014-20.

To find out more about the EU SIF please take a look at our website.

Devon communities expected to receive extra government support

HotSW has welcomed the government announcement that several areas in Devon have been recommended for Assisted Area Status (AAS).

Assisted Area Status allows for higher levels of EU funding and more government assistance to support businesses in disadvantaged economies.

A total of 9,658 businesses in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay could be set to benefit from this announcement.

The areas recommended for Assisted Area Status include Newton Abbot, Ivybridge, Totnes, Ham ward in Plymouth, several wards in Torridge and Torbay and much of North Devon including large parts of Barnstaple and Ilfracombe.

RGF funding welcomed

HotSW has welcomed the announcement that four organisations in the area have been awarded government funding to help boost growth across the area.

Two Plymouth based businesses - Becton Dickinson UK Limited and Fine Tubes Limited – along with Torquay based Gooch and Housego and economic delivery agency, North Devon+, have been awarded a share of the government’s £3.2 billion Regional Growth Fund (RGF), designed to help companies in England grow.

Strategic Economic Plan - Response to Consultation

During the development of our Strategic Economic Plan we listened to a wide range of feedback and comments from business, education, the public and the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector, as well as taking views in person, through consultation events and surveys.

The draft plan issued in December was adapted as appropriate, taking account of feedback, and a document has now been prepared that outlines the ways in which the plan changed.
