Show your Pedal Pride! It's Bike Month.

Spring has finally sprung and and as the buds start popping up all over Toronto, so are the cyclists. Our 'bike plan election' issue of dandyhorse is about to pop too - stay tuned to the dandyBLOG for our June launch party date and location. Our upcoming issue has Dyke March organizers, actor/activist Evalyn Parry of SPIN fame, and 23 'experts': politicians, planners, professors and activists -- all telling us what they would do to make Toronto a cycling city.

Toronto kicked off Bike Month this week on Monday May 26 with Bike to Work Day and the first official Bike to School Day. And retailers like dutil denim have fun giveaways for cyclists.

We’ve had an exciting past month catching up with Torontonians during our Bike Spotting sessions along the West Toronto Railpath, Queen and Portland near Richmond where a permanent contraflow lane will be installed and on Queen West (pictured above.)

We've got a really exciting month ahead on the dandyBLOG, with interviews with: firefighters, guerilla artist bike lane activists, sex workers, priests and more cyclists that you can shake a stick at!

We’ve also now seen what a real “bike fitting” entails at Giant Toronto’s flagship store, as dandy Claire prepares for her ride to Montreal for Ride for a Dream - a ride to end violence against women - departing on June 1.

Claire will be blogging for dandy from the road on her first ever long distance ride. Good luck Claire!

Stay tuned to the dandyBLOG for more great stories, cyclist profiles and more coverage of Bike Month events too.

Bike Plans in Other Cities

Bike Plans in Other Cities is a series that will examine the current short and long term cycling infrastructure cities around the world are implementing to serve their current cycle commuter populations and encourage novice cyclists. The first one looks at Copenhagen, Washington DC and London UK. Next up, Bogota, NYC and Montreal.

Bike Spotting Bonanza

The dandy Bike Spotting crew has been bombing all over town on our bikes to ask cyclists what would make their trip safer.
We'll soon hitting up some main streets like University asking "would you like a protected bike lane here?"

The dandy Bike Spotting team asked cyclists what it's like to bike on Queen Street? Though most "tried to be positive," the general consensus was, "...it sucks." For their time and honesty, cyclists got free Silicon Frog lights courtesy of dutil denim, who also have a Bike Month giveaway for customers! See more here.

Win! A Levi's Commuter Package

Kick off Bike Month in style with dutil denim. Ride by their Queen Street store between May 26 (Bike to Work day) and June 1 to receive your free Frog bike light. As well, every in-store purchase enters you into the contest to win a Levi's commuter package - jeans and a jacket - worth over $250!
