Bring on Spring!

As the icy winter grip begins to loosen, cyclists are once again taking to the streets.

In the meantime, we've continued our wonderful winter cycling coverage at dandyhorse with fun photos from Icycle 2015 (above), a Toronto institution that perfectly captures the spirit of cold-weather riding in the city. We enlisted Sweet Pete's, Hoopdriver and Urbane in a definitive round-up of the best winter tires. We also went to the 29th annual Toronto International Bike Show, one of North America's largest bicycle consumer events.

We've been privileged to profile some amazing pedal people this past month, too. We interviewed the City of Toronto's new cycling manager. And Austin Horse, who we previously featured in our summer 2013 issue, travelled across the world to deliver bicycles to Syrian refugee children. We met Bazil Smith from St. Catherine's; a kind of street bike doctor, and we even won an award from the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association for our behind-the-scenes story from our "Wheels on Fire" shoot with photographer Lisa Logan and firefighters on bikes.

This behind the scenes "win" spurred us to post another behind the scenes story about our "Good Habits" fashion shoot (where we met the firefighters), as well as a behind the scenes look at dandy photographer Dylan Leeder's courier shoot. Whew! That's a lot for the shortest month of the year! Stay tuned for stories on the Bloor street bike lane situation.

What else?

Our new print issue is coming - due on newsstands in June! The theme is equity and we've already got some real humdinger interviews lined up for you about equity in the streets, on the streetcar, at the polls, in the legislature, at City Hall, in rock 'n' roll, on television, in sports, on the farm, in the bedroom and of course, in the bike lane. We're talking equity. Subscribe to dandyhorse to get dandy in your mailbox first.

Keegan Stephan sat down with New York bike messenger Austin Horse after his journey to personally deliver bicycles to a refugee camp in the Middle East. We've got the dandy exclusive story.
Shooting the nun: behind the scenes
Here's an inside look at how we put together our Good Habits fashion shoot (above) with photographer Mike Ford, last year. This is also when we met the firefighters we would later shoot...and who would then give us a media award for our effort! The dandy wheels go round and round!
Never mind the bollards
A garbage truck drove into the bike lane and wrecked the flexi-posts on Wellesley. The city will now explore other modes of separation for the bike lane. Keep on truckin' Toronto!
