The Bike Show this weekend, a dandy bike giveaway for March, a new monthly dandyMECHANICS column and good news about new contraflow bike lanes...and more!

Introducing dandyMECHANICS

In our first installment of dandyMECHANICS, Sweet Pete's manager Owen Gerrard tells us all about how to treat our chains right and when it's time to switch them up. With dandy illustrations by Chris Simonen. The series will continue each month as we go through the mechanics of a bicycle part-by-part. Next up: useful tips on the oft-misunderstood (and hard to spell) derailleur. Each column will be followed by a special Bike Spotting where we ask people in the street what they know about the featured part-of-the-month.

Brick Lane Bikes giveaway care of H&M

The dandy team has another great giveaway to offer you this month! A custom built Brick Lane Bikes bicycle courtesy of H&M and dandyhorse magazine! It's a sweet green, fixed-gear machine with matching white rims, seat and bar tape. Stay tuned to the dandyBLOG for more info and to enter your name in our draw - starting on March 8 and closing on March 22. The winner will be contacted via email on March 25 and must respond by the end of March 2013.

H&M has teamed up with London's Brick Lane Bikes to create an urban cycling clothing collection for guys using sustainably- and bike-minded fabrics and designs; it launches March 7 in Toronto.

Be dandy, would ya?

Going with the flow -- contraflow lanes that is

We had a great response - with hundreds of shares and RTs on Facebook and Twitter re: our story on the planned contraflow lane on Shaw (which we hear might eventually connect up to Eglinton via Winona Drive -- thanks to Cycle Toronto for that tip). Local resident, dandyhorse reader and long-time cyclist-about-town Pete Brewer commented, " like. I've lived on Shaw for 7 yrs!"

dandy bike delivery business up for a Live Green small business award -- VOTE for Laurie!

Don't forgot to support dandy delivery person Laurie Featherstone's co., Two Wheels Green Delivery. She's up for a Live Green Toronto small business award. You can watch a video on her and vote over here, and read our Valentine's day Q&A and bike-along with her over here. Two Wheels Green Delivery delivers dandyhorse to our sponsor shops and book stores. What could be "greener" than a bike magazine delivered by bicycle?

Our dandySAFETY column continues with one-way left turns

What to do when you are turning left from a one-way street? What side of the road should you be on? And when should you position yourself in the left lane? Derek Chadbourne, Hugh G. Smith, Jim Kenzie and Councillor Mike Layton weigh in on the topic here. (Photo by Martin Reis).

The dandyCOMMUTE goes on ...

Check this out, intrepid cyclist and illustrator Chris Simonen posing with his bike ... in the snow. He describes his commute from Bloordale to St. Patrick Station over here.

Do you have a dandyCOMMUTE story to share? We'd love to hear from you here.
